For years I've heard the word "excelsior" attached to all sorts of grand declarations, municipalities, and even a Star Trek starship. Today I learned that the definition of this word is, " Slender, curved wood shavings used especially for packing." Macintosh computers literally are personal computers. It always seemed ridiculous to me that they for some reason defined themselves as not PCs. It reminds me of how people talk about man versus nature as if we are somehow not nature too. #RandomThoughts

If phasers (Trek) or laser cannons (Wars) are just coherent light intense enough to do damage, why can you see them in the vacuum of space? Wouldn't they be invisible until they hit something like dust, debris, or ships? #RandomThoughts

Another thing I never got about Star Trek… If the bridge has view screens but no actual windows, why put it on top of the saucer, in a vulnerable position? Why not locate deep within the core of the ship where it's arguably more protected? #RandomThoughts
