The towering Old Man of Hoy, with people on the cliff adding scale. The Old Man is barely part of Hoy, the second largest of Orkney’s islands at about 10 by 5 miles. Hackness Martello Tower on the island of South Walls in Orkney. It was built in 1814 to guard Longhope Sound, part of Scapa Flow, from attack by the French and by US privateers.
