Man I really want to give #NetBSD another go, but... well, what I saw with my alternate choice of video card was making me worried. My initial choice, the Intel Arc A770, has zero support and only worked if EVERYTHING was done in CPU (which made things painfully slow, especially in the web browser! YIKES) so I swapped in my old RTX 2060. It is *literally* listed on https://wiki.netbsd.org/gpus/ as being supported. And yet, video came up all screwed up, like it was trying to draw a smaller resolution on a 1080p display. And it was *also* screwed up on... Linux. But only with the #nouveau driver? Switch to official driver, everything works correctly. So now I'm wondering if there are compatability issues with the nouveau driver and the RTX 2060 that aren't clearly documented on the official website, as well as what version of nouveau NetBSD 11 ships with. Also I was going to look into sourcing a Radeon card since Those Never Have Problems, but apparently you have to build NetBSD from source to enable the Radeon driver?? It's been more than 2 years since I posted A Hat in Time running on NVK (Mesa Nvidia Vulkan driver) with reclocking, so I got curious how much it improved since then on the same hardware (my old gaming laptop with GTX 1660 Ti). From probably GPU bound 51fps to being heavily CPU bound 104fps is a pretty nice jump. If I remember correctly, proprietary drivers even when CPU bound is still faster here, so there's still some work to be done. #nvk #nouveau #linux #linux_gaming

I'm experiencing weird total system freezes with GT710 on nouveau when switching to the lowest pstate (0x07) vs (0x0f). I need to force 0x0f with kernel cmdline for it to not freeze during boot. I first tested it on openSUSE MicroOS (don't remember kernel version) but then also hit the same issue on Debian Trixie (6.12 Kernel). Will continue investigating tomorrow, but perhaps someone already has encountered this and figured it out? #linux #linuxdesktop #nouveau
