From #MiddleEastEye on #Telegram In 1948, #Israel forcibly displaced 750,000 Palestinians and destroyed 531 villages during the #Nakba. Their names disappeared from maps and new towns were built over them. The village of #EinHawd was of the few left standing. Whilst #Palestinian residents were expelled, Ein Hawd’s homes, mosques and streets were preserved and repurposed as an Israeli artists’ colony. Today, thousands of tourists visit its galleries and artists’ studios each year, while its original Palestinian residents are denied the right to return. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights new Nakba exhibit has been presented in the media as a 'controversy' and even criticized as a 'mistake'. It's neither. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1972, #Mossad murdered #Palestinian novelist and journalist #GhassanKanafani and his young niece in Beirut. A refugee from the #Nakba, #Kanafani later joined the #PFLP, a Marxist resistance movement, but worked as a writer and was killed for what he wrote.

"The Museum didn’t even seek consultation from Jewish Canadian voices on the Exhibit, which they should have even though that would be suggesting Jewish Canadians bear responsibility for Israel’s actions, which we all agree is textbook antisemitism. So I guess then they should have gotten Israel’s input? Even though that would suggest a responsibility to have the perpetrators of human rights’ violations sign off on displays about their human rights violations which seems…bad. Ok the point is they didn’t get input.
