Folks, I'm still here. I have had less to say or share because the news has been generally overwhelming, and I have been recentering my focus (slowly but surely) on the good that remains. Kinda like looking up into the heavens at night, I realized I could suddenly see many tiny points of light amid the darkness. To that end, here's my update, my Three Good Things. 1) I've volunteered to work with the ACLU, both as a poll monitor in a different city for midterm elections, and also "as needed" for other future concerns. Training is planned. 2) My local branches of Indivisible are also gearing up for midtems, and are actively recruiting poll monitors for training to address the many possibilities, good and bad. I am considering attending this training as well, as it's closer to home, and poll monitors are needed badly here too. 3) My full-time job continues at a popular national thrift store chain that makes every effort to reduce carbon emissions, employee the health-challenged and those with recent prior prison records, and keep used clothing / furniture / household goods out of the landfills while giving back to the local community with inexpensive or free job training available to everyone. And an extra today: 4) Community college classes start again for fall semester in mid-October. I'm registered for two in-person classes, plus one that is entirely online. #threegoodthings #3goodthings#CommunityCollege #midterms2026 #pollmonitoring#aclu #indivisible #northcarolina#perseverance #survivingintheshadows #survivingtheabyss

“Run for Something, the organization I ran had nearly 100,000 people sign up to run for office in the last 18 months. That's more than we had in the entirety of Trump's first term. The thing that we heard this time around that was different than Trump 1.0 was very specific frustration with the Democratic Party. With the sense that my leaders are not fighting for me, they're not showing up for me, they don't care about me, they haven't delivered for me, I am not going to wait my turn, I'm not going to get to the back of the line. I am done being told to just be patient.” From On with Kara Swisher: Are Insurgent Democrats Breaking the Party — or Rebuilding It?, Jul 20, 2026 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/on-with-kara-swisher/id1643307527?i=1000777530204&r=292 This material may be protected by copyright. #indivisible #midterms #democrats #dsa

There’s a book publisher in Madison, whose books are not for sale. You have to find them a little libraries or you have to make them at their workshop. From their statement: “ Andaleeb Cartonera is a cardboard book press born in Madison WI in 2024. Our project is inspired by Latin-American cartoneras, small alternative publishers that produce low-cost, handcrafted books using recycled cardboard.” https://andaleebcartonera.com/workshops-2/#madisonwi #littlelibrary #organize #indivisible #zine #war

Having a job in the South is no longer enough: the wage gap that drains the South. In the South of Italy, there are 1.2 million impoverished workers, a figure that corresponds to approximately half of the national total. The data emerges from a document presented earlier today by the CGIL (Italian Trade Union Confederation) during the national assembly titled “One and Indivisible. Italy restarts from the South.” #South #theSouthofItaly #Indivisible #Italyhttps://www.today.it/economia/finanza/poverta-sud-rapporto-cgil.html
