Bastian, this post of yours is quite disappointing on many levels.

It seems you've never read the docs or the philosophy of @codefloe@social.tchncs.de I'll unfold these for you here in this post (and all future readers) but also would like to add that I didn't expect such a low-quality shit-callout post from you personally. Yet here we are.

  1. The platform invites everyone to contribute, both in direct code contributions to infra, docs, etc. as well as via donations. You don't even need a paid membership to do so ;)

  2. The platform is deliberately company-owned to overcome the limitations of association-owned projects. In my view these are specifically slow progress in general decision making and a strong trend to politicization. CodeFloe is about code, performance and progress.

  3. CodeFloe isn't GitHub and not even close. I am somewhat shocked even you can't (or don't want) to make a difference here. We don't train on any data on the platform, we don't have AI integrations and we even have strong gates in place against automated AI scraping on our platform.

  4. CodeFloe doesn't exist to make money. The platform costs are covered by the company behind it as a service to the public. Once donations par with costs, the remaining funds will be spread across the people maintaining the platform.

We don't discriminate if people are using AI. We also don't judge them it they don't. We focus on hosting and tech. #Codeberg (and it's driving members) are actually splitting the community here and going extreme - and on top continue to use "we're the better people"-sounding posts calling out different opinions/approaches.

Don't you see which toxic (black/white) communication doors you're opening with all of this? It would be great if people at future conferences can still talk with each other without being constantly blamed (or maybe even worse) from one side of the spectrum.

Comment on the points I've raised in my previous post instead of continuing to reply with a high-level sarcastic wording. CodeFloe offers a home for projects without any profit goal or other commercial interest. The platform doesn't gain/win anything from new users in the first place. It even pays for them and their free use unconditionally. You're really fighting the wrong player here. 🤷‍♂️ #codeberg #codefloe

I've been with Codeberg for many years and, did a lot of work on the infrastructure and alike. I never received anything for it (I also didn't ask). I've been a paying member for years. I've been trying to build bridges many times but every time one just slightly moves of the "ideal" path (seen from CB values) or says something not entirely positive around (active) infrastructure practices (or rather issues), people get confronted and essentially declared "unwelcomed". The amount and depth of judgment coming from it's users is extraordinary (at times) and the discussion points of AI and crypto mainly bring these to light now. I personally find that behavior disrespectful and it also contradicts the values of "not harming anyone" which the platform itself promoted so heavily - which is actually ironic. Codeberg might have started out differently but, for some years now, is on a path to become more a policital/ethical association than advancing as a technical platform. This year's GA was a good reflection of that as most of the 3h spent there was around those ethical discussions and wordings and almost no time was spent on advancing in technical areas. This might be OK for the people driving it but also disappointing for many others which hoped to find a technically solid home for their code that doesn't sell their data and isn't run in the US. #codeberg #codefloe

I am not sure when this fact finally settles. CodeFloe is not a commercial platform. Though promoting anything else than CB itself seems to get people on fire while they could just be super chill and cool if they are already at their happy/perfect place? If you want to phrase it in more provocative way, CB should even be happy that the users they don't wanna have anyway got shown an easy way to migrate off the platform without too much hassle while still allowing their code to live on a GDPR-supported platform that doesn't sell their data, doesn't judge their tools and their origin. #codefloe #codeberg

That being said, I wouldn't say there is *no* alternatives. #Codeberg has gotten a bit of fame lately indeed, but there are other self-hosted #Forgejo instances which are happy to welcome AI users, e.g. #CodeFloe.

It's particularly suited for your non-Open Source software and they don't have an Anti-AI clause. Bonus for better uptime in my experience. #hosting #forgejo #git #codefloe
