Home - CBSNews.com | AI is driving more job cuts and weighing on hiring, economists say AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. AI‑related layoffs are climbing, with nearly 50,000 jobs cut this year—about 17 % of all announced cuts—after firms such as Intuit, Meta and Cisco trimmed staff to pivot toward AI. Experts, however, say the bigger story is not mass dismissals but a slowdown in hiring, especially for junior and entry‑level positions, which has already shaved roughly 16,000 jobs from monthly payroll growth and nudged the unemployment rate up. Analysts warn AI could eventually affect up to 15 % of U.S. jobs, yet most current cuts are framed as strategic moves to invest in technology rather than direct replacements of workers. Consequently, younger workers face heightened risk as their roles are easier to automate, while those who combine AI proficiency with adaptability and uniquely human skills are likely to be best positioned for the evolving labor market. Times of India | As AI layoffs in America cross almost 50,000-plus, Donald Trump says: AI has been amazing, because ... AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. US President Donald Trump praised artificial intelligence as “amazing” for the economy, claiming it has created more jobs than ever, even as recent reports show a sharp rise in tech layoffs linked to AI. A New York Post analysis indicates that 52,050 tech workers were let go in the first quarter of 2026—a 40 % increase over the previous year— with AI cited as the reason for roughly a quarter of those cuts. Major firms such as Oracle, Amazon, Dell, Block (led by Jack Dorsey), and Meta have all announced sizable reductions, citing AI‑driven automation and flatter team structures as drivers. Trump countered concerns by pointing to stock‑market gains and higher overall employment, arguing that AI is boosting, rather than harming, the U.S. job market. 40 years ago today, the Challenger space shuttle exploded, killing all seven crew members. @TheAutopian@flipboard.com's Jason Torchinsky writes about his memories of the day, the impact the disaster had, why it happened, and what it taught him about hope and humanity. "Maybe knowing that things can go wrong, horribly wrong, is a reality we should all keep in the back of our minds, and find a way to know it’s there and keep going anyway." https://flip.it/50b7_r #History #SpaceTravel #Challenger #InMemoriam

It's been 40 years. I still remember it well. I was in school. It's a few days till my 10th bday. Our (very small, maybe 14 kids) 4th grade class stopped our studies and tuned in the launch. The surreal moment of watching the explosion grow while the announcer calmly continued reporting the stats before realizing there was a problem. The teacher having to explain what we just watched. The day we learned that going to space is still a very difficult task. #Challenger
