Un violento incendio ha devastato nella notte un locale con birreria e musica dal vivo a Bangkok. Almeno 27 persone sono morte tra le fiamme che hanno provocato anche decine di feriti.
I vigili del fuoco sono riusciti a domare le fiamme solo dopo circa mezz’ora. I video diffusi online dai soccorritori mostrano il rogo che avvolge il locale ‘Na Ladprao’, nella zona settentrionale della capitale thailandese. Dalla porta principale si sono levate alte colonne di fumo, mentre numerosi clienti hanno tentato di mettersi in salvo tra il panico e una fitta nube nera.
Il premier thailandese Anutin Charnvirakul ha dichiarato che le cause dell’incendio sono ancora oggetto di indagine. Anutin ha detto che un musicista che si esibiva al pub gli ha riferito di aver visto del fumo uscire da un interruttore vicino al palco prima di un blackout, poi si è sentita un’esplosione e un fumo denso ha rapidamente riempito il locale.
Il governatore di Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, ha spiegato che gli investigatori esamineranno i materiali utilizzati per il soffitto e verificheranno se eventuali uscite di emergenza fossero ostruite, circostanza che potrebbe aver ostacolato l’evacuazione.
Secondo l’amministrazione cittadina, l’incendio è scoppiato poco prima della mezzanotte di domenica. Questa mattina l’area era ancora transennata, mentre decine di agenti della polizia scientifica ispezionavano i resti carbonizzati del locale alla ricerca di elementi utili a ricostruire la dinamica dell’accaduto. Le finestre affacciate sulla strada erano andate completamente distrutte e il marciapiede era coperto di detriti, tra cui televisori, altoparlanti e una chitarra elettrica ridotti in cenere. Attraverso le vetrate infrante si intravedevano tavoli anneriti dal fuoco, alcuni ancora con bottiglie di birra vuote sopra.
Le autorità sono inoltre impegnate nell’identificazione delle vittime, poiché molte erano prive di documenti o sono state soccorse prive di conoscenza.

A violent fire devastated a bar with a brewery and live music in Bangkok last night. At least 27 people died in the flames, which also caused dozens of injuries.
Firefighters were only able to extinguish the flames after about half an hour. Videos circulated online by rescuers show the blaze engulfing the ‘Na Ladprao’ venue in the northern part of Thailand's capital. High columns of smoke rose from the main entrance, while numerous customers tried to save themselves amidst panic and a thick black cloud.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anutin said that a musician performing at the pub reported seeing smoke coming out of a switch near the stage before a blackout, then he heard an explosion and dense smoke quickly filled the venue.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt explained that investigators will examine the materials used for the ceiling and verify whether any emergency exits were blocked, a circumstance that could have hindered evacuation.
According to city officials, the fire broke out shortly before midnight on Sunday. This morning the area was still cordoned off, while dozens of forensic police officers inspected the charred remains of the venue searching for useful elements to reconstruct the events. Windows facing the street were completely destroyed and the sidewalk was covered in debris, including televisions, speakers and an electric guitar reduced to ashes. Through the broken windows, blackened tables from the fire could be seen, some still with empty beer bottles on top.
Authorities are also working to identify the victims, as many were without documents or were rescued unconscious.
