Continuing my Flock Thread: New Article speaking about how more cities dropping, or contemplating canceling, Flock due to brand damage and hiring Axon. You may know Axon from hearing of its other products -- police body cams, dash cams, drone feeds, etc etc. This is trading a targeted dragnet with nationwide vendor-hosted sharing network to a full-scale surveillance web with agency-controlled, localized storage. I hope the focus on Flock becomes a larger focus on banning alpr surveillance networks and not just one brand that exists currently. From the Article: "Flock's brand is damaged. Axon is winning contracts. The underlying infrastructure — persistent, automated tracking of where every car travels — keeps running, like a streaming service that changes its name while keeping the same content library. The real question isn't which vendor a city selects. It's whether any state law prevents the next vendor swap from preserving the same secretly tracking users dragnet under a fresher logo." https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/cities-ditching-flock-safety-cameras-172924943.html #flock #antiflock #surveillance #privacy
