@igor@genomic.social The DOIs for all CRAN packages were active the whole time. Also new DOIs for incoming packages on CRAN were correctly registered.
Only the listing of the DOI on the CRAN pages was erroneously suppressed.
But it's back up now! 🤙

@igor@genomic.social Argh, hiccup. We wanted to speed up the addition of DOIs for newly released packages/updates. Apparently something went wrong with that. We will try to fix this as soon as possible.

CRAN uses no DOI field and always employs the official CRAN DOI.
If all relevant information is in the DESCRIPTION the auto citation() will work correctly without needing a CITATION.

@rstub@digitalcourage.social @zotero@fosstodon.org @crossref@mastodon.online We actually discussed the lack of a software type quite a bit in the @R_Foundation@fosstodon.org because everyone agreed that software should be treated as first-class research output.
However, alternatives were either expensive and/or did not fit well with the CRAN workflow.
So we went with Crossref eventually, given that we already used it for The R Journal as well.

There are three dates creation/publication and update. The former are the first CRAN release, the latter the current CRAN version.
The version number is deposited as publisher item number/version.

The crossref metadata have both the date of the first and the list version.
Crossref have no "software" deposits and they advised us to use "dataset" instead which is their catch-all category.

📈 Coverage update: Almost done! We're at 99.8% now.
The remaining 33 packages had problems with incorrect metadata (mostly ORCIDs) in their DESCRIPTION or CITATION files.
Next we will put together the pipeline for daily updates of the Crossref metadata in case of package updates or new releases.
