@jernej__s@infosec.exchange @Rairii@labyrinth.zone Part of me thinks this has to do with the fact that the N editions haven't maintained by MS for so long, that they're only really being held together by duct tape and string to the point that it would be far more sensible to install a regular non-N edition. Hell, early Win11 21H2 builds couldn't even get past the OOBE because the N editions were missing pretty much every media codec that existed... Optional feature installation hasn't improved much in recent years either. The version of the MFP FoD that does get installed from WU is that of the 24H2 RTM base build (10.0.26100.1)...

KB5077241 (10.0.26100.7922) contains the WMP version that KB5101650 is trying to upgrade away from.

Ever thought of stealing entire words from completely unrelated languages? Yeah, I'm down for lifting entire words off of Italian, English, Arabic and Spanish. Let's all have fun driving our karozzas and typing away entire spreadsheets on our kompjuters while we doomscroll into the deepest toxic-fueled pits of the Internet on our mowbajls. I could afford to eat a tuffieħa as well.

Oh, what's that? You want to reinvent the entire literary wheel? Sfortunatament, il-biża tiegħek ġiet ikkonfermat issa. Let's just steal the entire English alphabet and alter it slightly to drop what are otherwise some useful characters and replace them with less sensible options, all while mashing four goddamn languages together.

@tendstofortytwo@social.treehouse.systems @tauon@possum.city because Setup expects a valid Windows image to not only display the built-in EULA, but also to perform last-minute servicing (with the user's chosen localization settings; keyboard layout, time, language) at the end of the deployment process. additional operations such as installing optional storage drivers and language packs and (if needed) full OS component assembly also have to be performed against the Windows image. a Linux distro simply isn't one.

@tauon@possum.city @tendstofortytwo@social.treehouse.systems WIM images are basically a sector-by-sector capture of a specified directory or disk partition with all file/folder attributes and creation/modification dates and symbolic links preserved, encapsulated inside of a single index you can have more than one OS image index in a WIM file, and WIMs support LZX and LZMS compression they're meant to work best with Windows OS images, since they can be serviced using the Windows component-based servicing stack and are able to be pre-customized by OEMs
