How you need to use WebMCP and make sure your website offers the Google overlords the right "pieces" of the corpse of your idea. I say fuck that. I put myself on the web because I want to interact with real people doing real things in the real world. Sure, an AI might help them do that faster, better, etc. And yes, maybe I should make sure I use WebMCP because real people might really be trying to use AI to interact with my website. I try to have useful information on there that an AI could feasibly want. But because it's Google, and they have fucked me over more ways than I can count, I say No. That's not who I want in my community. 2/2

The people still using Google are not my community (note, I pick my words very carefully here. Visitors to my websites are not an "audience", they are a "community"). 1/?

That kind of work is extremely beneficial. I'd also argue that using GenAI for political activism is beneficial as well. The force multiplication potential is huge. Of course with everything it's a matter of degree (furthering the general theme of this thread that we should avoid absolutist positions because they aren't constructive).

In the same way that Nextcloud and Jellyfin can be self-hosted "cloud" platforms.It's already happening. I'm doing it today on my old work laptop. These open source models are getting good enough for it. AI is just going to be another tool in my self-hosted toolbox. And that's the way it should be.

It's honestly exhausting and the amount of toxicity and vitriol I see about AI, and is making me seriously consider taking a break from Mastodon. Folks are building new medical technology, tools to help navigate phone trees, etc. The real problem is not AI. the tool. It's the billionare tech bros and their companies that are exploiting every resource this planet has (water, artists, electricity, RAM, etc) to fuel their delusional projects. I worry not about the existence of AI, but instead about what happens when the VC money runs out.

I'm in my mid-20s. I don't remember the dawn of the internet. I wasn't there. But i'd like to think that I managed to catch a glimpse of what could have been. We have to get back there.

I appreciate the How You Can Help piece, because yes, I think we could cache packages very easily. We pin all our dependencies so we don't need to pull very often.
