I’ve read the article too and it also just seems badly designed. Their “storage costs” are most likely due to short s3 file lifetimes and so they’re literally just getting killed on storage for no reason. If they rented VPS space across the planet and just used normal hard drives their costs would likely drop instantaneously.

I’m not who you are talking to originally, but as lot of that is just kinda nonsense. They say they can’t have their own servers in DCs around the world cause it would cost too much…. But it wouldn’t, that’s just incorrect. They’re clearly spending 1.3 million on s3 data and the short file lifetime is killing them. If they just bought drive capacity and hosted on VPSes around the world they’d likely have a much much smaller bill. Yeah it sounds scary, but they’re already doing scary stuff.

they're using it wrong. They're going upwards with it when bloodline is a line of descent. So your parents are not in your bloodline, but of course that's not what we were talking about since they directly said "Bloodline is the blood in you, mother and father, and their mothers and fathers, all the way back. Unc ain’t in your blood." Since they're including grandparents to infinity, your uncles and aunts are in that bloodline. You can read my comment for more..

“all the members of a family group of people or animals over a period of time, especially when considering their shared family characteristics: “ - cambridge

“(usually of animals) the line of descent; pedigree; strain.” (what you’re talking about, but you’re reading it the wrong direction) or “ all the members of a family group over generations, esp regarding characteristics common to that group; pedigree” - dictionary.com

“A person’s bloodline is their ancestors over many generations, and the characteristics they are believed to have inherited from these ancestors. You can also use bloodline to refer to the ancestors of animals such as racehorses.” - Collins

“1. (usu. of animals) the line of descent; pedigree; strain.” “2. ancestry; family.” - Random House Kernerman Webster’s College Dictionary

“One’s ancestors or their character or one’s ancestral derivation:“ - The American Heritage® Roget’s Thesaurus

“the descendants of one individual; “his entire lineage has been warriors”” - WordNet 3.0

The problem here comes from the fact that you are reading your definition and going upwards, rather than starting at the top and going downwards. Line of descent goes downwards. It’s literally in the definition you gave. So even your parents aren’t in your line of descent, because that’s going up. But if you are talking about a bloodline from your grandparents then yes, you and your uncle are in that bloodline. cause that’s what line of descent is.

so no.. “Bloodline is the blood in you, mother and father, and their mothers and fathers, all the way back. Unc ain’t in your blood.” is incorrect. If you are counting mother and father and their mothers and fathers all the way back then yes, your uncles and aunts are in that bloodline.

I can’t find any definition that says that. Where are you finding that definition. Bloodline is relatives by blood, uncles are relatives by blood, hence why uncles could gain the throne in any bloodline inheritance society.

Huh? In what way aren’t they part of your bloodline? Unless you’re talking about uncles that are married into the family, but otherwise they’re literally blood relatives.

No I understand he’s talking about displays, I think I must have backspaced that and undid it at some point. But those commercial displays are not built with fast response rates because they’re literally just built to display one image at a time. Using them for gaming would suck.

I’m very confused, can’t you just leave a spoon in the honeypot as well? Like, I’ve literally done this before, dipped a spoon in to our honey jar, spun it around to keep it from dripping, put the amount I wanted in my cup of tea, and put the spoon back in the jar. But usually I just get whatever amount I want on my spoon and then I stir my tea with it. It gets 100% of the honey off, I get to stir my tea to mix the honey in, and I get the exact amount I want, no guessing needed. I mean if you like the dipper then you go for it, but I don’t really see the advantage here, even with usability, maybe just a tad easier to spin.

you can get local honey in squeeze bottles… literally the grocery stores in colorado sell only local honey (never seen honey from elsewhere here) and it’s all in squeeze bottles. Now it’s not like small-batch cottage foods, but it’s still local, created in the state of CO. I get honey from my next door neighbor, and since we have catnip plants all his honey tastes like catnip, and it’s good, but the stuff from the grocery store tastes just as good, it’s just not a unique taste like catnip.

A common refrain I’ve heard about those commercial monitors is that they can’t really do gaming due to input latency, since they’re not built for input, they’re built for commercial display and what commercial display customer cares about input latency. But I haven’t verified that.

You should read the Python documentation for how many ways there are to set it up. It’s not easy. It might be easy for a pro, but for a beginner it will be a nightmare. Python’s own documentation is thousands of words long for how to get it running correctly, it’s the exact opposite of what you want for beginners. And no it’s most definitely not the most human readable. They call it Ruby Prose for a reason. I’m not here to have a flame war over Python vs other stuff, but I’ve used both professionally for over a decade. Python is good at stuff, but being human readable by beginners and having good tooling are not even in its ballpark. It has syntax unlike any other modern language and its tooling is shite. chriswarrick.com/…/how-to-improve-python-packagin…

Java is much easier to set up than Python is. For one Java works with mise, asdf, sdkman and numerous other automatic tool managers. Python on the other hand works with none of those. I wouldn’t recommend either for being easy to set up. Ruby is much easier than both (including my favorite language, Kotlin) and has just as many nice features and is much easier to read than Python.

Absolutely do not use Python. It’s a nightmare to install on random computers and the majority of your time spent will be trying to get it working on everyone’s computer (that was my job at one point). As far as I remember, there isn’t a “good” C compiler that comes on windows and the one on Mac is missing some stuff. I’d go with Ruby, it’s dead simple to install on every OS, easy to teach and learn, and doesn’t work differently across OSes. There’s an installer for it for windows and it comes installed by default on Mac (or it did? Maybe they stopped that).

This result reaffirms that Python is a great language for those early in their career. This is a really bad conclusion to come to. In my experience (teaching others), Python is one of the worst starting languages because it differs so much from other languages. I’m helping teach someone right now and whitespace being significant has poisoned their mind against all white space. They think it matters in function parameter lists, before and after quotes, etc. This knowledge isn’t transferable, thus the large portion of people that only use Python (indicated in the survey). But if they are like most medium to large businesses, this is an incredible waste of cloud compute expense (which also maps to environmental harm via spent energy). I mean… come on. If you’re pulling that card then stop using Python all together. You said it yourself (talking to the author here), 50% of Python is ML. The largest user of energy on the planet. The productive delta between those using it and those who avoid it is simply too great (estimated at about 30% greater productivity with AI). Hasn’t this been proven wrong like….numerous times now? There’s actually a productivity decrease since you’re constantly correcting an AI. It’s essentially like getting an intern. All your energy is spent helping the intern. I’m not going to comment on the venv/uv stuff… I understand I’m in a Python community complaining about a post about Python, I’m sure to get downvoted, but I’ve literally taught numerous people or tutored them when they’re trying to learn Python and every time my conclusion is that earth needs to stop using Python so much. Especially for newbies.
