@rooster I fell over in the winter and broke a finger and hurt my shoulder. The finger is fixed but still stiff, but the shoulder just isn't getting better.

Not only do I know everything about my specialism, I also know everything about all other specialisms and a whole bunch of really esoteric and obscure diseases as well. I work all the time, never have a day off, never sleep. My colleagues seem to have time to play golf, have marriages and extra marital affairs and play in jazz bands. Somewhere along the line I made poor choices.

@leavex at the point of use, the message simply says "verify your PIN" and you type in a PIN. No context why you need to do this. You can dismiss it a few times without apparent adverse effect. It puts the user in the mind of "enter PIN, get it out of the way" rather than "why is it asking me to do this", which is a boon for phishing. i.e. if the user just enters the PIN without thought when prompted, find a way to put "verify your PIN" in front of that user and wait.

@leavex whilst technically correct, I'd argue that there is a burden of care required by Signal or any other app. Why is pin verification required? Is a PIN an appropriate validation method? How is it that users could think that the phishing method be easily mistaken for a genuine request?
I've been a Signal user for some years, and I'm pretty digitally literature. It's not clear how PIN verification helps security, or why it is required when it's required.

I was visiting my mum in Bahrain, and my grandmother had given me some Christmas presents to take. Already wrapped.
The guards stopped me, because one present was a video cassette, and they needed to check there was no pornography on it.
It was in fact, Paul McCartney's frog chorus. Me and three armed guards watched it in a little ante-room. At the end of the song. They ejected the tape, and handed it over... 1/2

Anyone have advice on how to convince them to ditch their friends and move to OpenTorment?

@paninid ... To stretch the analogy a bit: the high street already had 10,000 cafes on it. None of them made much money. Then overnight, all of those cafes became almost identical, and started losing money at a slightly slower pace. The human run Thai restaurant / bodega / 24hr bagels did well for a while.
Of course, it's much more nuanced and complex an analogy could ever reflect. Sigh 😔

@paninid unfortunately, this presumes that a lot of people employed to create content are there because their creative skills were needed. The reality is that many are / were employed to write slop. "50 words on dog food brand X", "Clickbait headline for video" etc.
Human slop is being replaced by AI slop.
For clarity, I think this is shit on many levels. No one wants slop, however it's generated. I'd guess that few people love writing slop. Now it's fully automated...
