Stuff like this kind of annoys me, at the very premise. at "one kanji a day" I'd still not not know half of the 2,136 jouyoukanji
And 2 minutes isn't enough, either. It took me about 15 minutes per kanji for initial familiarisation and reviews combined, for about 500 hours of kanji study all up.
But I was able to do that 500 hours in about 4 months, not SIX YEARS if you did it 1 kanji a day.
If you're reading this and you're intimidated by the numbers, you can save a lot of time using newer methods that emphasis learning kanji in context, it gives you a blurrier idea of the kanji but it's sufficient to get past the intimidation of it and carry on. The learning process takes time, and you'll be spending a lot more time learning words than kanji anyway so it's just a speed bump.

I had a conversation last night with another furry learning Japanese (it seems like a rule, if you're a furry you'll try learning Japanese eventually lol) and he'd been studying a similar length of time to me, but he'd just been on Duolingo.
He still can't type any Japanese (he asked me how I was doing it) and used ohayo gozaimasu in the evening, which made me sad because he could've easily gotten so much further. I have definitely not been on the most efficient path either, but I'm very comfortable with kanji and I can watch anime for fun (with Jap subtitiles anyway)
I don't want to be discouraging, I want to fan the flames of other people's passion in language learning such that they succeed, but, if you're using Duolingo, there's better ways. You can't really learn a language in 15 minutes a day, and duolingo is a dopamine trap rather than a language course.
Sure, for languages closer to English, you might get enough to make a meaningful difference if you travel to a relevant location, but you could get so much further in those languages by spending the time you would've spent on duolingo by just doing anki flash cards for common non-cognates and some basic grammar rules and listening to beginner podcasts while you clean or something.
If you want to move beyond duolingo and don't know how feel free to poke me I can point at some resources and ramble about my own experiences if it's of value to anyone.
If you're happy just using duolingo for fun in itself and don't actually mind that it's so slow that's fine too, fun is mandatory.

It used to be harder to focus cameras (you couldn't) and adjust exposure for indoor shots (just hold down the shutter button in bulb mode for as long as feels right in your bones)

It's funny how long it can take sometimes to draw connections that are obvious in hindsight.
I learnt the word 詰まり from Brand New Animal to mean clogged or packed, when a character was told off for having a bath in animal form since it'd clog the drain.
Then I kept seeing つまり and found the definition of "in short, all in all" kinda meanings, and figured it was a totally separate word. It's actually the same word I just realised, lol. They're packing the idea down into something smaller, lol.
It's also still amusing how I'll learn something new and then see it EVERYWHERE and wonder how I could've possibly missed it for so long haha. I guess it's only through exposing yourself a lot to things in slightly different contexts do you arrive on the context that aids understanding enough to stick.

Astonishingly with gyro and trackpad aiming combined, Quake III (which has no controller support) is shockingly playable with the Steam controller.

I've been fiddling with the Steam controller for a few days now and it's really good, I really don't think any reviews really do it justice, skipping over advanced features and just going "oh I don't like the gyro or touchpads" when they've not really delved into anything apart from defaults for an hour and then figured that was good enough to post a review. So, I'll do my best :P
Something I noticed a lot of reviewers said is that they figured it felt cheap, though I'm not really sure how. It has a reassuring heft without being too heavy, and the plastic feels fine. It's plastic, and feels like plastic, such is plastic, I dunno what controllers they're comparing it to or maybe I have low standards.
All the standard controls feel great, I played some 2D games like Pizza Tower and it felt just as good as my dualsense for such purposes, didn't feel like I was compromising dpad/face buttons or anything for the additional extra features. The analogue sticks also feel great, they're among the best I've experienced, similar to if not better than my dualsense with aftermarket TMR sticks.
However, the extra controls are what drew me into this controller, and where my main interest lies that most reviews just gloss over lol. Maybe the most tame of these are the back buttons, that "pro" or "elite" controllers from Sony and Microsoft make you pay hundreds for, and that can be of limited use on PC, or some third party controllers. They are very handy for getting inputs off the face buttons so you can look with the stick or trackpad while inputting actions, or just having more inputs, such as using them as modifier keys to activate different "layers" if you're playing a game that has a zillion inputs.
For myself, I used them mostly to get actions away from the face buttons and used one as a gyro aiming pause button. Gryo aiming has been incredibly exciting for me. While I've played around with gryo aiming on my dualsense (I missed the boat on my OG steam controller, when I got it not many people seemed to be talking about it), it has been a lot more comfortable on the Steam controller, with the shear number of ways to configure it. Right now I have it on all the time, and paused when I hold one of the back buttons.
I have noticed some lacking in the configs though. I noticed I can't set up any complicated conditions for gyro to activate/deactivate. (I can't, say, set the grip capacitive sensors to turn it on but have that overridden by a button, so that the gyro doesn't go nuts when I let go of the controller to type in chat or something) but it's a minor complaint for me. Others may find such settings critical.
The touch pads have been very nice too, I think I preferred the old round ones but these are very responsive and usable. I have been setting sensitivity so that a swipe from left-to-right on the pad results in a 180deg turn in game, which has felt nice for major flicks and using a gyro sensitivity of 4.5 (4.5 in game rotations for every 1 IRL rotation) and it's been working very well. The trackpad is maybe a little far down, so I think the back buttons to keep common inputs away from the face buttons is a great idea.
Something I only briefly tried, but am excited about, are the on-screen menus the trackpads can do, and can even normally act as camera but show a menu when another button is pressed, or even if you just press on the pad a little harder. If you have a very hotkey heavy game you can still play it with enough effort.

Just encountered a young (21) furry who messaged me out of the blue, I try to give people a fair shake if they reach out to me.
Turned out they were studying linguistics and Japanese, both topics I have a casual amateur interest in, and then when I mentioned a book I hope to read in Japanese one day (吾輩は猫である(I am a cat)）they responded with "I have heard of it but I am not much of a bookworm"
I didn't expect them to have read it, but it seems contradictory to me to be interested enough in Linguistics to study it at a university level, how can you NOT be a bookworm???
Perhaps people go through childhood not reading books now. I guess that was also said of people in my age bracket too :P
