It is insane that you can buy a business and then saddle that business with the debt of buying it. That should be illegal on its face.

The rest of it yeah I'd love to see equivalents for but

@ariadne@social.treehouse.systems I'll just be over here, allocating and then discarding 100,000 objects a second.
Ironically, even when I did that (on purpose mind), allocations weren't even close to a bottleneck.
Which makes me wonder wtf other people are doing.

If you're not asking for truths, then it doesn't need to give facts.
It can run on a standard GPU that people already own.
It does, but I'm positing that it doesn't have to
I agree that it's current providence is highly unethical.

AI is innocent. At least, it can be, if the data used to train it isn't outright theft, and the person using it is acting ethically.

A lot of movies have these amazing setups and then get fucked in the second half by the movies runtime. SO many movies would be way better if they were 20-40 minutes longer.

Netflix: Why doesn't anyone watch our Originals any more?
Also Netflix:
- Makes amazing/award winning shows
- Cancels them after the first season
- Does this fucking Constantly
- If we do renew it, it'll be 3-4 years at minimum before the next season
Gee I wonder why people don't bother.

When it happens, Encrypted chats in general just stop being decryptable.

All devices are Linux or Android, all of them are verified, and I've had the issue across Element (both), ElementX (Android) and FluffyChat (both).

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz Unfortunately it's not a meme.
It just happens, at random. I can have 3 devices verified sitting next to each other and one of them will just randomly stop being able to decrypt messages from specific people for 4 hours, no matter what I do.

I think long term, glibc needs to be adapted to be more like Window's libc - Specifically, able to load older versions of itself based on what the binary asks for, basically maintaining the API surface. That's why software compiled targeting Windows 95 can work on Windows 11.
glibc's current architecture is hostile to software that is closed source, or for software where the source code has been lost somehow, but but binaries continue to exist.
I'm not an open source absolutist. I am fine with closed source software. Software houses are going to be a lot more on board to support desktop Linux if they don't have to deal with glibc updates, and can ship their software and know that as long as the dependencies are met, it will just work. Right now that's not a given, and can effect not just lateral (time) but horizontal (distros).

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz Honestly would do a lot more if Samsung's app store would stop pushing malware to phones tbh.
Incredibly often when I'm figuring out all of the bs happening with like, popups and stuff, the offending apps will have been installed via a completely signed out and never set up Samsung App Store. Which is, by the way, quite alarming. It'll be like, a card game or whatever.
