I’ve made it. Now going to sleep and tomorrow the big migration to my own, private instance with short handle.

I can only thank #Elon for taking over #twitter. Twitter was interesting but full of trolls and toxic behavior. I used to lurk mastodon but it was very very niche and main activity was on bird. Now when people are flocking here it got more interesting. I learn more about fediverse and more I learn, more I’m convinced this might be something bigger than social media tool. A mental model switch of how we think about platforms, capitalism and relations to others (including corporations).

We’re setting up an instance for an organization I volunteer and this would be ideal setup.

What's the best and most efficient way to encrypt a big file or folder (~300GB) on macOS, ideally with bash and password.

Use case: I expand my backups with additional media: Hetzner Storagebox. Every quarter will upload there all my iCloud Photos and stuff. But want to encrypt it so it's not plain.

Don't need any fancy encryption, something that would work as "meh not worth it" if Hetzner ever leaks. Also so random devops there won't see my photos.

It would be great if #Apple would offer some automated way to backup iCloud data, in an already encrypted form, to a third-party backup provider, like SCP/SFTP disk.
