I wind up with kind of the opposite reaction: At that point, why not rather get a bakfiets, or even just a shopping bag on wheels to bring on the tram?
But I guess my perspective is influenced by not having owned a car for over a decade, and instead renting a van for bulky stuff and "normal" cars for trips w/friends/family a couple of times a year.

Our monthly diesel sales are down some 25% since the summer of 2023 though. And the march 2026 numbers aren't out yet.

Ehhh, the parliament axed our fees on petrol and diesel (there's a a road use fee and a CO2 fee), after the agrarian populists decided to vote against the government and other supporting parties, and in favour of the right-wing populists and conservatives.
Prices are still high. I suspect a majority of Norwegians would be entirely unbothered if we had instead gotten restrictions on diesel for private cars, esp in cities, so the fuel can go to tractors, trucks, etc.

Yeah, that's essentially what happened to me (though it may have been in an automatic transmission car).
But these days I just drive EVs. They are the most common engine type here these days, and the main issue was just the initial adjustment.

IME adaptive cruise control is when cruise control went from being useless crap in highway traffic, to my preferred way of driving. But it also requires a mature mindset of just being part of traffic rather than stressing over trying to find a way to pass cars that are going 1 km/h too slow.
