Figured now's as good a time as any to make a new #introduction post...
Hello! My name's Sutter. I'm some guy who pretends to be a cartoon badger on the Internet. Interests include music, computers, math, tabletop board & card games, and kitschy old media. My day job is grant administration for a nonprofit.
I'm a proud demisexual gay man. Being queer is an important part of who I am and how I find community. There's no LGB without the T. I'm not kinky myself, but I am kink-friendly.
Furries have been my main social group for most of my life, and I can't imagine socializing any other way. Sometimes I try drawing digitally as a hobby.
I live in the Boston area, and while I'm fairly introverted I do occasionally enjoy going out and getting some face-to-face time with people in my community. You can say hi to me!

I've been told many times not to beat myself up for not being further along in my "healing journey" (whatever that means) than I am in the present moment. It's not realistic to expect a complete transformation in personality just because I had a moment or two of clarity about what I've been through and how it affected me.
I'm having a hard time with it tonight. I keep being told I'm not alone, and I keep telling others they're not alone, and I still feel so very alone. Human connection still feels off-limits to me.
In order for things to get better for me, I need to form safe, trusting connections with others who want that too. But tonight I'm feeling like that's impossible. Like a "safe and trusting connection" is not something that even really exists. Or if it does, it's reserved for the Good People who know better than to get involved with trash like me.
I know none of that is true, but it weighs heavily on me. I just don't want to feel alone anymore.

I want to draw pinup art of naked animal people that's the right size to set as a desktop wallpaper.

Ehhhh I'm not in love with how much I overshare on bsky. Sensitive subject matter that seems fine here (behind an appropriate CW, natch) feels like it's exposed to way too much normie attention there.
I don't want attention from an audience of normie strangers, I want connection with people in spaces where it's safe to be myself. My profile bio has been updated to reflect that.
Someday I will want to share art somewhere again and, assuming it's still safe and legal to do that in the place where I live, that'll probably go onto another instance and not this personal account.

"average mathematician discovers 3 infinities a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average mathematician discovers 0 infinities per year. Infinities Georg, who lives in Halle & discovers over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

News today had me seething.
Last weekend I called my mom, who told me she prefers to just ignore all the bad news that's going on. That also had me seething.
Today I wrote a to-the-point email to her, explaining the reality of life for LGBTQ+ Americans. I linked to news sources specifically about the campaign against trans people, and also to the Wikipedia article about the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft.
Up until now, I thought it too risky to bring up her GOP-voting family members and how I feel about them. She's admonished me before about judging them for their politics. Today that changed.
The GOP has been campaigning openly on the eradication of queer people from public life since before I was born. What's happening now is not an accidental byproduct of their otherwise reasonable politics. It is the point of their politics.
If this damages my relationship with my mom, then the relationship wasn't really built to withstand real strain anyway.

Babylon 5 thoughts: As I've grown, I've come to appreciate the motivations of the Vorlons and Shadows. They're not incomprehensibly alien at all.
There are real-life manipulative bullies who stoke conflicts in order to isolate people who might form alliances. It's an understandable human behavior.
The Vorlons don't speak in mysterious riddles at all! They just suck at communicating effectively. Their whole sense of self-worth is staked on maintaining an angelic savior image in the eyes of others.
Just like real-life narcissists.
And the Shadows? When we finally see their secret lair, it looks like a business lounge in the basement of a Radisson. The guy they speak through sounds like a manosphere podcast influencer justifying his idols' atrocious behavior. The Shadows are a bunch of freakin' losers.
