I feel like this is true for both Google and Apple, and it doesn't make sense to me. They're the major players in the smartphone & tablet space with Android and iOS(?). They have a mostly-captive audience and could leverage that to compete hard against the Kindle platform... but they don't. My personal experience is on the Google/Android side, so I'm not sure how much Apple might be dropping the ball, but Google sure seems to be leaving money on the table by not competing.
