@25kV There is only really one "real" leader there. How many career politicians in this day and age would remain in country if it was a conflict zone

If you believe that Beijing et al. are not already archiving activitypub from dissidents then fool-on-you. Having the vulnerable believe otherwise will cause them harm

@sanctionedanya@toots.matapacos.dog @aral@mastodon.ar.al @sanctionedanya@toots.matapacos.dog @aral@mastodon.ar.al It is a cultural difference, and we can state our position on it until we are blue in the face and neither one of us is going to change our position. In Europe, privacy has a large amount of protection applied to it by law and socaially. In Australia PII is protected by law, but only if you are a govenment body, or a business entity making over $3 million. In a personal capacity there is no legal protections between individuals on a non-commercial engagement. So if you come over here, yes some jerk can follow you around in a public area with a shotgun mic and record your conversations without any recourse. Just like if I went to Europe i would have the legal protection for you to not have the same happening. As of the instance that I administer, I have a privacy policy that sets out the social contract that I have with the end users of my instance and the others who’s data is held there. However, I cannot offer my users any protections for messages that leave my sphere of control, and so they need to protect themselves from bad actors. My arguement is what you are missing, I am not stating that you have to protect yourself from me, I am not a jerk, you have to protect yourselves from the jerks of the world, and the community jumping up and down and stomping any bad actors that announce their presence instills a false narrative to the vulnerable that there is no-one slurping up their data on the sly.

@evannakita@mastodon.online @aral@mastodon.ar.al I personally have no problem ethically if someone was to use this find posts that I have made, if they were one of my followers. Your instance uses ActivityPub to send your post to all follower’s instances where it is then inserted into that instances database. If it was the opposite and the receiver had to connect to your instance to read the post then no it is not ethical. This type of searching should be intergrated into the instances where the level of trust is seen to be higher, which the author has stated is a hopeful end point.

@shine@gts.churanova.eu @aral@mastodon.ar.al It all depends on jurisdiction, there are other places than just the eu. The example I gave you for my location is correct, anyone can take a photo of you from a public place and you have no recourse to have the photo taken down or destroyed.

So If you have permitted your profile to be indexed you have been offered additional methods to ensure that the site follows your wishes whilst allowing other sites to index it.

@SallyStrange@eldritch.cafe @aral@mastodon.ar.al no but people will put stuff on the internet, especially social media in plaintext and then complain that someone else does something with it that they don’t like. My arguement is exactly that, don’t put anything on the internet that you don’t want an enemy finding without encrypting it end-to-end
