@whangdoodler@piipitin.fi @TechTangents@dialup.space I was going to suggest this (knitting, but still yarn): https://susancrawfordvintage.com/products/a-stitch-in-time-volume-3-the-colourwork-edition No association, except they use my favourite OS to do the layout and did an interesting talk about that last September. https://rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/2025/sep.html https://youtu.be/NmZSXjij7x4

@bit @VanessaK I understand he wore it so that people wouldn't recognise him when he took it off. I saw him once, or at least the hat, at a production of Lords and Ladies.

@m3t00 @sushee I worked on a small part of the ground segment of a major weather satellite system nearly 30 years ago. The printed requirements filled literally a shelf of folders, detailing protocols, font usage, colours, etc. We dove into them for weeks, trying to understand the system until one day someone came across a single powerpoint slide that showed that the satellite didn't just transmit raw image data to the ground, but was also a comms relay. Suddenly it all made sense!

@drmikepj I was told that bad landings by American pilots were always put down to "rocks on the runway" (otherwise they'd have to pay for the plane or something, this was the 1940's - 60's). Naturally, my father, who built and maintained runways didn't like that! It sounds like Greenland should put a few of those Lego looking concrete blocks on there, with a plan to remove them for genuine emergencies. And a plan to prevent the plan in case of invasion.
