It's a maxim that "you get what you measure." Why are governments fixated on Gross Domestic Product, which looks at nothing but money? Hopeless for people and hopeless for our survival.
The 2019 experiment in New Zealand to look for new measures for the Govt to aim at, instead of Gross Domestic Product, was heartening. I'm not sure it survived. But there's space in that ground to get involved and work for more sensible and sensitive measures.

@fasnix@dresden.network I agree that spirituality is not the same as religion. But to be healthy every religion must develop a person’s spirituality.
From where I stand, a person’s spirituality is their capacity to grow in that hidden part of themselves that senses the deep dynamic on which all experience is grounded, the dynamic which is mysterious in the proper sense of the word (mystery = “that which cannot be spoken of”).
I have always struggled with the word ‘spiritual’.
I have always found the word “religious” easier to use because it has a clear origin = “that which re-binds”. i.e. What a person keeps coming back to. What they are deeply joined with. What is part of their identity, not just a choice or an affiliation.

Having an interesting and thought provoking time reading “Misreading Scripture With Western Eyes - Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible” by E. Randolph Richards and Brandon J. O’Brien.
It’s a challenge to us to spotlight ‘what goes without saying’ in our own culture hence adds to the decolonisation conversation.
It throws up a specific linguistic argument against my own denominational forebears in the sphere of classical liberal theology, who argued that Jesus never claimed to be divine. The authors claim that by missing a bridging metaphor used throughout the Hebrew and Christian books of the Bible, significant connections are missed and real misunderstanding is at stake.
I’m looking forward to the next section, which counterpoints western individualism against collectivism.
