@ricci@discuss.systems Ah gotcha. That config just stood out. Used to have to service cooling towers. Summer was kinda fun scrubbing them, would put on swim trunks and get in there. Winter, not so much fun. People who say these don't user water really need to look into the towers of any modern building, and learn about evaporation.

@ricci@discuss.systems Is that 5th building, the one lone one off the 4 cluster, the entire complexes cooling system? It looks like those are evaporative coolers and none of the others have that. Guessing it houses a bit more too, perhaps backup gear of some sort.

@erdstern Oh yes I would. I actually just learned the term last year. I had a friend point it out to me years ago. He realised I must be able to have full 3D like movies and asked about it. He had a very difficult time talking with me because of the jumping about and seeing those relation connections and not following a strait path. His advice: "There are a lot more of us than of you. We can't ever really understand your POV, but you can at least learn and understand outs. Figure that out now, it will make your life a lot easier."
I spent the next year asking everyone I even vaguely knew if they saw in pictures or 3D movies. Very few like me most in that sort of outline image to no image at all.

@erdstern @bit101 Feelings cannot change facts, but they are always altering the perception and usage of them. Like you said, this is always tied to some form of status. I often think this is fueled by a shallow/weak/fragile/incomplete ego. The need for endorphins of acceptance to justify their existance, at whatever cost to the good of society. This has only gotten more acute and accelerated by tech.
Personally, I do not care if I am wrong. Knowing the fact supersedes the self.
I'm fascinated by aphantasia. I am full on hyperphantasia. Everything is a manipulated object, time included. The relationships to other objects give context, or show relations. Say chair and there's one formed in my head. Recliner... when is the first time you saw a recliner? All of that is like following that object into an interlinked set of object-spaces. Pull out, the first time I understood what a recliner did and how it differentiated, that I can recall, 3 months prior to my 4th birthday. Sitting on the floor in my grandparents house next to a gold heave weave recliner and watching the lever being pushed cause the metal arms to extend. Those are solids with full sensory attachment. Abstract things, finding someone cute, are understod by other object-space moments and collating them into a network.
I cannot fathom how it would feel not seeing that. I understand it, and can even imagine evolutionary reasons for keeping that full spectrum. But the feeling of being alone and disconnected is disheartening. I do not assume that is your feeling though. Same thing ofr colour sited feeling like sad towards me. While I just view it as a norm and something to research and understand.

Any fact resolved discussion that uses feelings I either end or walk away from. If someone is determined to prove their god, I simply say: "I'll engage in this, if you can refrain from using feelings. None of your responses can use any term like that. You cannot say 'I feel it deeply.'" It's may get a "but let me...". Nope, no feelings. They walk away.
You want to tell me why you used a minor chord and it includes feelings, that's perfectly ok. Flat Earth, god, ufos, Rothschilds, those are not feelings. And never go past a sentence.
Also, not just senses, then memory as well. Humans have one of the most fallable interpretations of flawed data input possible... inherently corrupt recall. Memories are reassembled each time they are recalled and they get details added or lost based on the context (feeling) the recall. I've got a "highly detailed personal memory" and even I know and can watch the process pick and choose details based on context of the recall.
Annnnddddd.... the memory is not even stored as a whole time slice. It is stored with Major Fact/incident and then a host of meta tags. This is done so that the brain can conserve data. EG: 10yrs old, grandparents house, winter, just me, grandmother, and 1st cousin Gary. There, that's a pool of probabilities I can pull from vs. recording all that.
Annndddd.... it's stored after the buffer (short term) decides if it is worth storing. If Yes then it is filed based on secondary emotional tags. Not fact, emotional chemical response.
It is astonishing that humans ever got a damn thing done and were able to learn anything at all. Meat sacks hell bent on believing their emotional fog is the physical reality they inhabit. Funny enough, on the quantum level, that world does respond to our personal POV.

@erdstern @bit101 Add to that the fact that nothing is actually happing live/now. By the time we get the data, process it, and figure out what to do/react, it's in the past.
When I was 6 I realised I was R/G deficient. I wanted to understand it better. So I made 10x swatch charts with 10x crayon colours. I took them to a large family gathering and asked only the adults to describe what colours they saw. I sat and watched the absolute chaos. No two people agreed on more than 4. And the ones I knew were R/G argued and defended their POV the most vehemently.
That night I lay in bed thinking that each of us had an individual world that we inhabited and only luck got us to agree on anything being a shared reality.
All these years later... I have yet to see any proof that oppose that POV.
Culture, time period, body mechanics, personal processing, all insure that no two humans can ever have the same POV on anything.

Over the years I've dove a fair bit into vision. I am rather red/green deficient. The whole art thing for me made that something I wanted to not use as a barrier.
But it's also interesting how the brain then prioritises. Shape/pattern are primary identifiers for me. Texture is next. Size then motion. Colour is dead last and usually only if asked.
Night visual acuity is better for us because of the processing and the enhanced contrast.
Since men are about 23% on average colourblind, and the traditional code setters. I am most puzzled and frustrated with the fucking colour codes for wiring and electronics. How much hubris did it take for the 2-3/10 men on a standards committee to shut up and not mention they could not tell WTF they were looking at... really pisses me off.

@bit101 OOoh, just thought of this. Run a model with them very close together and further apart but grayscale and the same tone for each block. It would be interesting to see how those get processed. Perhaps a 3rd even with them close but the same grayscale values.

@bit101 You may be right. But, I would think the contrast forces the brain to focus more on one or the other alternately thus making the framing more pronounced. EG: This one then that one and back again. If you find a good explaination, would love to see a link in the comments. Great learning lesson for us.

@bit101 =) I just happened to ask the correct teacher the right question when I was a boy. The colour ones that rely on that to fool the eye are ineffectual on me most times. And this one, if you tilt your screen so that your eyes are perpendicular but the screen is at a very obtuse angle and you are looking at the skewed plane... well this one sort of does not work any longer since you can see them grouped together in a very tight space.

@bit101 The brain cannot see continuous motion. In stead, just like a movie camera, we see a stack of still images. So we more or less focus on one or the other rectangle it's why the B&W version works as well. Or covering one end works because your focused on the cover and that which is below it, the motiong then is grouped with all three objects.
This effect is very evident if you look out the side window of a car or train while it is in motion or pan your head from L>R or R>L in the smooth be somewhat fast motion. In both cases you will see a staccatto sort of effect in that you will see a blurr, a freeze frame, blurr - repeat as you pan or are carried along.
It's a processor conservation issue. Too much data to keep a contiguous stream. And the stills, I suspect, allow a very fast assesstment. Scan the still for danger/friend/foe as you continue seeing the illusion of motion.

I'm working on a site for my own data. It will post 5-10 new fake docs a day in a "secure" area that is easily found. Those docs are receipts, mortgage, birth/death/marriage/divorce certs, professional and legal docs, all that shit. And ALL of it wrong. I'll be dead and just born within a day. Married when i should be 100 and divorced at 3. Depending on which doc you read. Since those bots are recursively verifying info, this will become truth to them all. I'll be a data enigma. In a few years it'll be damn near impossible to sort that shit out.
I've alreayd had a personal philosohpy to lie on every corp form I could get away with. I never use my name for shipping. I sandbox all registrations. So it's alreayd a bit fucked up.
I feel this could be a near future service for people. Polluting their data as an "art project" so it's easy to get away with.
