Doing mid-year check-ins, and while the team has a "AI & Tooling Adoption" as 10% of their evaluation, I'm concerned about how deep they are in using Gemini to analyze logs, understand the problems, verify troubleshooting steps(!). Especially the ones really new to the job... they should be leaning on runbooks and senior team members, not making it up as they go with AI. They don't have the experience to know when the AI is wrong, and I'm just waiting for our first outage.

I often wonder what manual writers are thinking:
"Clean the earbud openings with a q-tip after every use."
Like, sure. Gonna carry around q-tips or a soft, lint-free cloth to clean my earbuds multiple times a day.
I'm sure it's a legal CYA. "Not our fault if the customer gets an infection. We told them to clean the earbuds every time they use them."
Hadestown was amazing. I had no idea what to expect, but I loved it from the beginning, even when I realized I knew this story and how it ends.
Of course, starting my first mid-year check-in for my team and the Oracle-powered HR service is down.

I have a family-shared set of passwords for key accounts, plus the secrets necessary to unlock my private passwords. My document attempts to list everything I think they'll need to know (cancel) when I'm gone.

When you "schedule a call" and there are no explicit instructions about you calling them... that means they're supposed to call you, right?
So I'm skimming the web, looking for an alternative to "bitch". Trying to get gendered insults out of my vocabulary.
Suggestions to similar asks on reddit are "motherfucker," "dick," "cunt," "witch," "bitch is gender-neutral."
As usual, reddit doesn't understand the assignment, the idea being not using aspects of being a women (or a man) as an insult.

Always. Like some manager is mistakenly ripping open all the bun trays to stage them at the beginning of the day, pulling them entirely out of the plastic instead of leaving it to protect the buns.
Then I moved and my new McD's is vastly better. Even the beef seems better, which shouldn't be a thing.

Even if they don't write permanent scripts, understanding Bash better will make them more efficient at the command line. I've seen employees do painfully tedious things by hand because they don't know the basics of shell scripting.
When did Bash become like Perl, "not suitable for anything but one-liners"? People writing Python scripts when a simple Bash script will do.
What's worse is that people are using AI to learn to code, and AI is injecting _opinions_ into that. Gemini (the AI I am required to find a use for at work) told me that Bash is only useful for one-liners, and my co-manager also said it wasn't worth teaching the team Bash.
My team _lives_ in Bash all day long...

I'm cheering for the Pope. I don't believe in his God anymore, but the fundamental message of love and compassion is still true. And using Christianity to justify a war, even if that religion were actually true, is wrong.

@davidrevoy Scribus can have a rough on-boarding experience (especially if you've never used a frame-based layout package), but it's a solid piece of software. Unfortunately, it was confusing enough for newbies that DriveThruRPG quit supporting it for their print-on-demand.
I'm using it to lay out my PDFs, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do if I decide to take a product to POD. Get by without support, or lay it out in a different package.
Looking forward to trying the new stable, though.

@tj I've had the same socket set since... July 1990. Bought it to start my job at Boeing. It's a Craftsman (Solid as Sears), and the latch has broken off and I've dumped the sockets so many times.
I'm missing a couple. But dang, it's been nearly 36 years.
