@seanreilly@mastodon.social with a regular password manager, you can fool someone into giving credentials to another website. My *guess* is that passkey designers wanted to avoid that. This also forces website authors to stop changing the login page url every few years (which is how even a sophisticated user can get fooled with a typosquat domain or something)

I expect it would be harder to kill an nginx serving static pages (or, perhaps, you wold kill it but network would be the bottleneck). Our Dokuwiki instance doesn't have _that_ many pages, but it's pretty slow, so that's probably why bots are also noticeable.

@mackuba@martianbase.net between @hswaw@social.hackerspace.pl infra and my personal sites (also hosted on the same infra), only git forges (code.hackerspace.pl, gerrit.hackerspace.pl) have been a major problem, solved with Anubis. wiki.hackerspace.pl is also getting a ton of traffic, but only enough to slow it down, not overwhelm it. All other sites are either cheap enough to serve or don't have enough pages for scraper bots to be an operational problem

@rysiek to a certain extent, I understand the attitude of “hey, this is just a hobby project, I made it for free, don’t expect *anything*”. I too dislike the entitled attitude of users of open source stuff.
*but* the moment this “toy project” became wildly popular, he should have taken down the website and put a big fat warning on GitHub to scare away people who are not experts (but have at least two brain cells). It’s this part that’s, as you said — utterly negligent.

I'm looking for a C compiler that:
- is simpler and smaller than TinyCC
- is capable of compiling TinyCC
- is written in very simple C or a language simpler than C
- can plausibly support risc-v (I can add codegen myself, just can't have deeply hardcoded x86 assumptions)
- has a FOSS license
- is not GNU Mes
