@OscarCunningham@mathstodon.xyz i wrote a program that enumerates all the colorings, and it doesn't find any that work: http://ianhenderson.org/2026-08-01-dodecahedron.c.txt (the face numberings were from putting labels on a real-life icosahedron i had handy, so i could have made mistakes during that process, but the group it generates does have order 60 at least)

@unnick@booping.synth.download i think the last two conditions are similar to asking for a map projection that's both area and distance preserving?

@radex@social.hackerspace.pl that’s a serenityos window (it used to have a menu bar like that in 2020)

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com a while ago i got excited about this idea of "rootless" shared-wm operating systems to the point that i hacked up qemu to expose the host window management to the guest os using a virtual device. i implemented support for it in serenityos to test it out (see attached screenshot w/ serenity browser overlapping linux windows) but then didn't really do anything further with it. i still think it's a really interesting idea, though!

@regehr this sounds similar to XNU's concept of purgeable memory but applied to an entire process. like, ideally the OS itself would have a concept of a process which can be killed with only a performance impact (and e.g. its parent process would detect the death and re-run it some other time) rather than having the build manager attempt to detect the OOM condition (which seems difficult to make reliable)
