It's been a long time since I updated pictures of the computer room - last ones I think were like 4 years ago or so. So.. without further adieu, here's a bunch of pics. #bbs #commodore #tandy #apple #retrocomputing #computers #computerroom #sinclair #hamradio #amiga

@48kRAM@retrorewind.social It's not small, it's how you use it :). I'm trying to stay under the 'hoarding' line.

@particlesbbs@mastodon.social I take Trixter's definition: If you know where everything you own is, and can put your hands on it in 5 minutes, you're not a hoarder. (Or something like that)

@48kRAM@retrorewind.social @particlesbbs@mastodon.social this is the version I ascribe to (and have printed a a fridge magnet in WOzFest HQ). And yes, I almost always achieve the deadline if asked during a WOzFest (i.e. missed once, perhaps twice, since WOzFest 13 Sector in July 2019 – I just held WOzFest 43 yesterday!).

@particlesbbs@mastodon.social I've set a few platform restrictions: No Macs, no weird Japanese machines. Those are rabbit holes I can't afford to go down. And no duplicates, but I've violated that one for my Atari 800XLs. (I wanna have spares though)

@48kRAM@retrorewind.social I told myself no weird Japanese machines besides an MSX, and well.. if you look close, there's a Sharp MZ-711...

@particlesbbs@mastodon.social @48kRAM@retrorewind.social The first computer I ever owned was a Sharp MZ-731. It had a tape drive and an integrated four-colour plotter. 💕 But that wasn't the first computer I programmed. That honour goes to a Luxor ABC-80. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABC_80 So many computer brands were introduced back then, but most of them died off and disappeared into obscurity.

@karttu@oldbytes.space @particlesbbs@mastodon.social @48kRAM@retrorewind.social It was also popular in Swedish schools (which is quite natural since Luxor was a Swedish company). The first ABC-80 I programmed was located in a high school, but I was only in third grade. It was in the room next to the chess club that I was a member of at the time. It was a long time ago, but I still remember being mesmerized and curious about computers from the moment I first saw this ABC-80.

First owned & programmed: Amstrad CPC464. Also hacked on Apple II/BBC/Microbee/Acorn before getting on the Mac train with a 128K.

@VikingChieftain@mstdn.social @48kRAM@retrorewind.social Nice, that is one I haven't heard of. The MZ-711 has a printer as well. The tape drive on it is broken at this point which isn't surprising, but they make SD card readers now for it.

@particlesbbs@mastodon.social @VikingChieftain@mstdn.social @48kRAM@retrorewind.social Technically MZ-711 has neither, unless they were aftermarket upgrades. From factory, MZ-731 has both and 721 just the tape drive.

@particlesbbs@mastodon.social @48kRAM@retrorewind.social Yes, the MZ-711 was part of the MZ-7xx family. I really enjoyed programming on the MZ-7xx. But the Commodore C64/128 was my favourite computer from that era. I still have my 128D, and programming in assembly language on those machines was awesome. I wish I had brought my MZ-731 with me when I moved to Canada, but I gave it to a fellow computer enthusiast to reduce the weight of the pallet I was shipping. What’s done is done.
