After a long, long time of having trusted my data (email, photos, calendar, etc.) to Google, I'm interested in extracting myself in a safe and practical way from that ecosystem and using more free software, but I'm concerned about losing things if I don't do it right. I want to make sure that all the things I've purposely kept over the years don't disappear and intend to be very circumspect in my approach. What complicates things further is that I'm on a family plan with Google, so it's three of us sharing the same storage plan.
