@Tutanota@mastodon.social Even “yes, but” is an oversimplification. AI is a whole field in computer science (for many decades, I might add) or do you mean “LLMs” or “generative AI”? In that case it would be a “no, unless”. Training data must not be stolen but public or bought, cost should be transparent and charged to the user (no dumping or bait and switch) and that includes not externalising cost of water and electricity use. That alone cuts out most applications on cost-effectiveness.

Oligarchs are not just “rich and succesful business people”, there are at least two other characteristics: being in a close circle with political power, and buying public or semi-public property on the cheap (after collapse of the USSR) Would some or all of that apply to western billionaires, sure. But neither group should be let off the hook for profiteering off the public sector, grabbing commons and externalising cost to the environment

That doesn’t negate the success in European collobaration at the other end of the spectrum. Airbus outsells Boeing almost 2:1, Ariane launches the JWSS at such precision it *doubles* the telescope’s life span. Galileo is a top-notch (if not the best) GNSS. So I’ll take your bottle caps

@MennoOng Nee, dat staat er volgens mij ook niet. Maar de DEMs zijn met uitzondering van mensen als Pete Buttegieg, Bernie of AOC ook meer VVD dan PROgressief. Beter dan de PVV/MAGA maar dat is “a low bar” Ons huidige kabinet is ook beter dan het vorige, maar de invloed van het kapitaal (VVD) is nog even groot. Ik sta niet te juichen. Maar mijn eigenlijke punt: de USA verandert in de basis niet veel, en we kunnen in EU beter zelfstandig worden dan daarop te hopen.
