today i learned: sort -u is not exactly sort | uniq. if you do sort -n -u, the uniq applies only to the sort key, which with -n will be only the numeric value.

so with this data:

10 a
1 b
10 c
1 b

these all behave as expected

$ sort data
10 a
10 c
1 b
1 b

$ sort -n data
1 b
1 b
10 a
10 c

$ sort -u data
10 a
10 c
1 b

but unique+numeric loses 10 c too

$ sort -nu data
1 b
10 a

when i'm around normies, even people who sortof get that ai is problematic, they're like meh, you can't not use it, gotta go with the flow, anyway i only use it once in a while, gotta be aware of its limits, i couldn't make a whole fake blog of marketing copy for my business if i didnt, etc etc, why how often do you use it?

i've been feeling like ai techbros have been given carte blanche to launder the licenses off all the world's code, and maybe this means that copyleft -- the only tool i know of that attempts to protect open source -- is obsolete and useless now. copyleft only functions when copyright does

so to see the only good organization that defends copyleft itself say, "let's welcome people who patronize and defend ai companies?" wow that feels super bad
