in the masto ui if i put someone in my special list for best tooters that i never want to unintentionally miss a toot from, i no longer have that nice regex filter from the home column that i can apply to filter out topics i don't care about
"tool for getting rid of crap you don't want to see" should be a feature on every ui element in every piece of software in existence

👨 eesh, i bet it is. (reads the article) augh! it made me feel terrible!

if i'm going to go to the trouble of actually sewing actual patches onto the rips and holes in these old unremarkable jeans, i want go hogwild and armor the fricken things so they never wear through again
i'm thinking, strategically-placed nylon webbing where seams tend to rip, denim under something abrasion-resistant (waxed canvas?) at the knees and crotch
but surely this not a new idea by far and somebody has posted their wikihow or something for it

i've had days in my life where i feel super organized, on-task, accomplished and proud of the crisp clarity of my resulting output
so i'm not incapable of that
adhd meds didn't help with that today
(not that i'm certain they're supposed to)
i just felt more intense flitting from task to distraction to task, without much to show for it
must be something else i can do to trigger a disciplined approach when i want to
i keep thinking of a lab notebook but never manage to stick with it

oof. lost 20 minutes of work because of this
today i learned: sort -u is not exactly sort | uniq. if you do sort -n -u, the uniq applies only to the sort key, which with -n will be only the numeric value.
so with this data:
10 a
1 b
10 c
1 b
these all behave as expected
$ sort data
10 a
10 c
1 b
1 b
$ sort -n data
1 b
1 b
10 a
10 c
$ sort -u data
10 a
10 c
1 b
but unique+numeric loses 10 c too
$ sort -nu data
1 b
10 a

when i'm around normies, even people who sortof get that ai is problematic, they're like meh, you can't not use it, gotta go with the flow, anyway i only use it once in a while, gotta be aware of its limits, i couldn't make a whole fake blog of marketing copy for my business if i didnt, etc etc, why how often do you use it?
and i'm "fucken zero i hate that shit" and get weird looks
shout out to all my mufos still viciously opposed to llms, thank you, your toots give me life

"llms are getting better at finding bugs in code so if you're too anti-ai to use those tools, then malicious parties will instead, to find things to exploit"
i don't really know what the answer to that is in general. but for me personally if the cost is enriching fascists and obliterating a swimming pool of water for every fix, i'm leaning toward "fuck it leave the bugs in"

sat in a chair that i haven't for a while and reach over to a pile of books and omg! omg! there is my e-reader that has been misplaced for months, of course i would find it someplace silly like this after turning the house over looking for it. augh i am so so happy to finally have my library back. so much nicer to read this in bed than my phone's screen. glad i didn't actually leave it on a bus or something
and then i wake up and it's still missing
second time (so far) that i've had this dream

Nethack 5.0 released, including this feature:
The build-time "yacc and lex"-based level compiler, the "yacc and lex"-based dungeon compiler, and the quest text file processing previously done by NetHack's "makedefs" utility, have been replaced with Lua text alternatives that are loaded and processed by the game during play.

i've been feeling like ai techbros have been given carte blanche to launder the licenses off all the world's code, and maybe this means that copyleft -- the only tool i know of that attempts to protect open source -- is obsolete and useless now. copyleft only functions when copyright does
so to see the only good organization that defends copyleft itself say, "let's welcome people who patronize and defend ai companies?" wow that feels super bad

i don't want to exacerbate anyone's job hunting anguish, but i do like the thought of getting the phrase "I've lost all hope in normal companies" across the desks of hiring managers at those normal companies. y'all (corpos) are fuckin it up, too late now, founders of worker-owned co-ops in fursuits are on their way to drink your milkshake
