It's a long ride of six hours, due to planned repairs and such. But we arrive 5 minutes early! And we catch one earlier Öresundståg to Malmö. 31/n

The delay increases to 25 minutes, so the 16:18 to Copenhagen is long gone. Our old plan was to stay the night, but we just want to go home. It's been four weeks now for me. So we ride! The 18:18 to Copenhagen is an old DSB train, oh well. We don't have a reservation, but 1st class is not too crowded. Reservations are displayed, but from the previous journey to Hamburg. We'll see. 30/n

Reading "Enshittification" of @pluralistic@mamot.fr . Can recommend, entertaining to read with good length and, of course, very interesting and pertinent. He makes the point that antitrust policies are an important tool to combat Enshittification and that a lot is going on in that direction, for example under the Biden goverment, but also in the EU. Now I have a question: Why is this happening in the EU? Why did Vestager take the steps she took? I don't recall this being a topic at all in the EU elections? P.S. We sat one beside her and her partner in the opera. My wife saved the evening by giving her coughing partner a breath mint. Take that, Zuck!

The RE runs only one train set instead of two and people are packed like fishes. Not us, because we have 1st class passes. The conductor says: Going by train rocks, buy it doesn't work anymore. I have to concur. We arrive 10 minutes late and our ICE to Hamburg departs 20 minutes late. Air conditioning is struggling, even 1st class is almost full. I worry about our belgian chocolate. Luckily it's just a warm summer day, not crazy hot. 29/n

Our goal is to take an RJ to copenhagen 16:15 in Hamburg. Since our train is delayed, we miss our originally planned train. There's another one later that only goes to Harburg, but with an RE from there, it would work. But that's now delayed half an hour because of "verspätete Bereitstellung". My tired wife thinks she found a way via Düsseldorf and Hannover, and we leave our train to take an RE to Düsseldorf. But she looked for Harburg, so it won't work. So we'll take it to Wuppertal and get the ICE from Cologne to Hamburg. 28/n

So, onwards! Our plans have been changing for several reasons, and we settled last week on going all the way home today. However, there's track repairs between Aachen and Köln. So no Eurostars, and the ICEs take an hour longer. However, the last thing is not in the timetable. Thus, we did not get notice that we will not reach our planned connection. So we'll see how it goes and if we reach Malmö. Update: The delay is unplanned by DB: A maintenance car derailed, wow. 27/n

And off to Bruxelles in the Eurostar. Again, security and the waiting area is enervating. It's just two hours of actual travel. We'll stay another two nights and then travel all the way home on Saturday. 26/n #Eurostar

We arrive in London on time, now two days of sightseeing and culture with Hamilton and Globe theatre. The sleeper is nice. It has a restaurant car with a very decent menu. The bed is long enough for me, longer than in the nightjet. Breakfast is provided with a coffee and a muesli bar for free, and a cooked breakfast for additional payment. 25/n #nighttrain #CaledonianSleeper

After a nice afternoon spent near the river Ness, where we saw an otter, off to London in the Caledonian sleeper. We have a 2 bed cabin to ourselves. Arrival in London Euston planned for 8:03. I'm looking forward to this! 24/n #nightrain #CaledonianSleeper

Today we start the long way back. It is very tricky to get to London from the Isle of Skye using public transport in one day. So instead, we take the bus back to Inverness for 2 quid and then the Caledonian Sleeper in the evening. I've shown the bus before, so instead Rubha Hunish at the north tip of Skye from above. 23/n #TrainTravel

The faculty of science at Lund University is hiring two assistant professors in computational science. You can select which institution such as biology, maths or physics you want to be employed at.

Computational science is broadly defined as research that applies and develops methods for advanced computation with the aim of addressing research problems in the natural sciences, engineering, or medicine. This may include, for example, the integration and development of models, as well as advanced computational and data‑analysis methods and software, including simulation, modelling, and data management.

So check it out and consider working with me in maths!
