@wjmaggos@liberal.city it all boils down to what you mean with 'federate freely'. to me it is that i federate with instances i find sensible enough to be worth to have an exchange with and that have the same respect for me that i have for them. instances devoted to extremist views lack the basic common ground to have a fruitful exchange. besides, your email analogy is forgetting spam filters: a blacklisted domain is like a unfederated fediverse node, the user never gets some spam from these domains. @fabio@manganiello.eu

@wjmaggos@liberal.city you agree but... it is like moderate muslim or christians or [any religion here] when some religious bombing happen: they may not be pulling the trigger but they enable those who do. in an echo chamber they may radicalize or maybe they realize faster what a shitty group they are in. what's the right way to handle these 'nazi that are not so nazi'? i don't think that a free for all approach is sensible but i'd love to have THE answer... @fabio@manganiello.eu

@wjmaggos@liberal.city the goal of a nazi-like-ideology is to erase or subjugate diversity. if you are not one of them, you are game. that's what they did back in Germany, what happened in apartheid South Africa, what is happening in Israel/Gaza and the USA. you can talk as much as you like while they find a way to get away with your murder, but while your goal is discussion and changing their mind, their goal is to shot you. basic lack of common ground, IMHO. @mttn What a ban on targeted/profiled ads can bring: -privacy: obvious, i hope... -safety: attacker can't abuse the profiling tools to choose a target pool (minors, elder, fragile,...) -security: compounded from the above. Targeted ads lets an attacker know which employees of what company or governement has substance/family/mental/whatever issues and target them with specific social engineering tecniques to gain access to restricted material. @notsoloud @DrJLecter @EUCommission

@mttn If you ban TARGETED/PROFILED advertising there will be no way to legally gather loads of information that can be (and currently is) abused. It is the single 'simple' action with a foreseeable huge cascading impact on internet privacy, security and safety. Opponents always leave out the TARGETED/PROFILED part to have proponents look as dumbass. TARGETED/PROFILED are the keywords.
