@presidiet @Karolina @EUCommission Do you condone that kind of behavior? We can disagree as much as we want on the subject itself, but one thing we should all agree on is that it's not okay to use aspects that we don't choose like gender or skin color to make someone look bad. I will always stand firm by that. And if you condone it, then I will not proceed to have a discussion with you. I dislike just "leaving", I apologize, but I just do not wish to get accused that way again, I've had enough.

@presidiet @Karolina @EUCommission When someone brings in things like gender, looks, family etc.. into an unrelated discussion to try to make me look bad, that's usually when I know that it's time to leave. In my experience, I was never able to have a constructive discussion with someone that behaves that way.

@presidiet @Karolina @EUCommission I speak or write the same tone with everyone, and like I said, they blocked me, I can't go back on what they said, it says "profile unavailable". This discussion is therefore pointless. That being said, the accusation is baseless and disrespectful, especially in the age of the internet where you can just look at one's profile and see what's going on. It's pretty obvious that the person wasn't interested in the facts, because they were easy to uncover here.

@presidiet @Karolina @EUCommission And honestly I find it just difficult to take this discussion seriously now, considering that the person used their gender to accuse me of something that I never did, when gender was never the or in discussion in the first place. Any credibility for a factual discussion goes out of the window with that kind of behavior. It's just not okay for someone to attack or accuse someone else like that on the basis of nothing. They clearly didn't even look at my profile.

That person said (although bear in mind I was blocked, and I'm now unable to read these messages again) that this surveillance was caused by fascists, which is just not true. The current surveillance we're getting in 2026 in Europe, it's completely unrelated to fascism, that's a fact, whether you like it or not.

@notsoloud @shuro @EUCommission @DrJLecter The thing is, in 2003 we didn't quite know how to optimize watch time. Companies have become VERY good at this, and it is what lead us to today. There was no such thing on the internet as optimizing watch time in 2000 like we have today.

@pgo @notsoloud @DrJLecter @EUCommission It's not the advertising part that is the problem, it's the service itself that is fundamentally built to know everything about you, whether it includes advertising or not.

@pgo @notsoloud @DrJLecter @EUCommission Brother, "there will be no way to legally gather loads of information that can be (and currently is) abused." this is a messed up claim, just because you disable targeted advertising, but hell let us even say advertising at all, it doesn't stop companies in any way to track you through their services to discover what you like and maximize your watch time. Claiming otherwise is just plain wrong.

@Karolina @EUCommission That being said, let's make one thing very clear, it has nothing to do with fascism. Surveillance lies in both extremes of the political spectrum. I wouldn't exactly call the UK, France and China fascist states, but the surveillance there is very real and the UK and France don't even fall in the extremes, actually they're not even right wing right now, but it's a fact that these two are the most surveiled Western European countries.

@Karolina @EUCommission I agree, I often use the comparaison of "Would you like a government official in your bedroom at all times?" -> "No, but..." -> "There you go". The answer is usually "But it's not the same!!!". Right, the only difference is one sees you for sure, while the other might or might not see you.

@notsoloud @DrJLecter @EUCommission Banning advertising wouldn't solve brain rot, the problem doesn't lie in the advertising part, it lies with the network itself.

@codebam @GrapheneOS They don't "promote" security, at least not like Graphene does, that part is true, but can you really claim privacy without security? (Not in the literal sense, of course you can, what I mean is, is it ethical to do so?) How can a phone be private while being easily penetrable? In the theoretical sense, these are two different things, in the practical sense, you can have security without privacy, but you can't have privacy without security.

@CLondoner92 @EUCommission Well the British decided to cut ties so, not trying to sound like an ass but you can't always only have the benefits without the negatives.

@kelpana @EUCommission Unfortunately it's the same here, I think it's just a west wide problem. But I wouldn't be surprised if other countries like China have the same problem. To me it just looks like everything is getting worse everywhere.

@kelpana @EUCommission In Switzerland we don't have universal healthcare so to speak, but we have mandatory private health insurance with capped prices and services. It's been working well until now, recently prices have been going crazy. I think the Swiss system is a good compromise between avoiding the inefficiencies of the public sector while protecting citizens from abuse of the private sector. Either way the entire European healthcare system is under stress regardless of the system type.
