@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Okay but I think, it is very obvious, who has the real power in such a two-party system. A narrow circle of guys behind - or above - both parties are automatically build up, and their internal arbitration will be the real decision making. These guys can not be expelled by election, because elections choose only between their left or right side. Now compare this to Iran. On the paper, there is an internal "Commitee of the Guards", a closed, narrow group of shia clerics. Their power is that they can forbid nomination to the election to anyone, for anything. Thus, while Iran is a presidential republic on the paper, in the practice, you can only choose between various flavors of shia islamists. NOW WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UK AND IRAN?

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Ok but these guys in the Parlament. They make their speeches, they make their votes. Meanwhile, they all know, it is totally meaningless, because everyone votes for his party and against the other. They play as if some decisions would depend on the speeches. They waste their precious life sitting there. Then, they vote. If it is coming from the opposite side, they vote against it. If it is coming from the own side, they vote for it. Why this is then for? In the reality, a closed circle in the ruling party is making the decisions, this all is only a theater. Also the king is part of the theater. The parlament could replace him any time if they would want. He can only exist because that is the law (made by the parlament). And it is going so since centuries!!!

@Wurzelfurz@feddit.org @cm0002@mander.xyz Main problem of the iphones is not the lack of drivers, but their unrootability. Beside that, its hw/fw explicitly tries to prevent your access over your own phone. There are also intentional traps, to brick the phone if you are playing with it.

@rms@mastodon.xyz If I would want to live and work in the USA, I would need a company wanting to employ me, while I am not there yet. They would need to prove to your local government, why they can not find a local USA citizen for the job. That is the legal requirement for a work visa. Not chanceless, but very hard. After entering the USA, if the employer fires me, and you have "at will employment", I would need to leave the country in some day, except if I find another job very quickly, where they would also need to prove that there is no USA guy for the job. After some years (maybe 3 years or so) it would be possible to apply for permanent residency. From that, I would be only expelled if I violate any law, and you know it is quite simple to violate it. Maybe 8 years or so would be the citizenship. Citizen can only be expelled if any future court find any problem with the naturalization process. Again, not chanceless but nearly impossible. Alternatively, I could also enter the USA as a tourist. Tourist visa is simple from my country, but if I work or remain even a day longer as the VISA shows, I would be banned from entering the USA again for life. Uhm, and you have a high court decision that the foreigner can not appeal against a visa decision. Needless to say, only legal living in the USA counts as permanent residency or citizenship. Illegals remain forever illegals, except if the next president wants to sell your country to them, in exchange for their votes. Mexican guys are not so lucly, because they can not get tourist visa. If they could, majority of mexico would be an illegal migrant at you very soon. So, how do you plan to give to the foreigners the ruins of your once so wonderful country? How about calling them exactly their criminals?

@theron29@witter.cz @jbz@indieweb.social Ok, then not. Problem is that these "ancient" things like deb packages, they are not ancient, they are for people with the skill and the internal motive to produce quality code, and quality systems. This whole "snap", "docker" and similars are actually a hird of unthinkably low quality softwares, packaged into virtual machines, to defend them from each other. It is not a step forward, it is an adaptation of hardware resources to keep the compatibility with the more and more stupid "young titans". If the alternative is that the open source community, and in a more broad sense, the network of smart guys capable to create indepent, open, quality products, ceases to exist, then yes, it is an acceptable compromise. But it is even so a compromise.

@aparrish Interest for chess deeply decreased. Until then, high level chess was some mysteriously extraordinary thing. Now it is like a sport, like a sprinter can improve 1/100s in his last record. No one thought, that it van happen. It was widely believed, that human brain has some unreproducible. This was broken. I was there jn 1997. We never forget it.

@csepp @aparrish Not enough resources for what? Your brain eats 20W, and our chips are about 1/50 of the size of your neurons. Miniaturization is going. Exactly what would be not enough?

@90sScriptKiddiw @aparrish I wish you had right, but I am not. Yojr "light years" is about a decade, at most. Btw, your brain is about 1e+11 neurons, all of them are doing analog data processing with about 20 Hz. Might I ask you, exactly what makes us essentially different from a not even too big neural network, if not God?

@aparrish It is only matter of time, and they will be far above us. Remember '97, as Deep Blue won Kasparov. It is not a thing for tomorrow, but a process. We have clearly no chance against them.
