It's been interesting comparing Twitter and Mastodon. One of the big differences I notice is that the ratio of mockery to substantive replies is much lower on Mastodon. So if you're going to use both, maybe Mastodon is the place to try out novel ideas first.

I'm in the middle of writing a new essay, and there was one awkward paragraph that I just couldn't seem to fix. Eventually I realized it was because the underlying idea was wrong, and that the real solution was to delete it.
This often happens. Trying to make the sentences perfect is not as shallow an undertaking as it sounds. It also exposes the bad ideas.
A lot of reporters want to talk about Elon and Twitter. Instead of responding to them, I'll just post something here and see if they can find it. It will be good practice for them in using Mastodon.
I think it will be a relief to Elon to go back to focusing on cars and rockets. Those are arguably more important problems anyway. And he could still do good things for Twitter too, if he hires the right CEO.
One of the best features of Mastodon is the lack of quote-tweeting. I'd forgotten how great that was. And unfortunately for Twitter, it's a feature that they'll never be able to copy.

Can any mas.to user tell me how to turn off the notification beeps in the web app? I had a pretty thorough look before asking, but I can't find a way to control it.
Whoah, apparently Twitter suspended my account and then changed their mind. Seems a bit much. I missed it all because I was reading to 10 yo. Or rather alternately reading and listening to his ideas for new Pokemon.
