If anyone in the UK wants a copy of "the Rust Programming Language, 2nd Edition" - DM me, and I will send it to you.

@ian@mastodon.radio We have just returned from a long weekend in Germany with family, and although I booked a Fiesta (or equivalent) hire car from Hertz, they offered me a BYD Otto 3 electric car with no additional charge. We took it, and I have to say I was quite impressed. The range is nearly 500km, so depending on your usage, you wouldn't need to charge on a regular basis at home. As long as there is a charging network in your area, you could get away with using that. The car itself was quiet, and had more performance than we needed. If I had to be critical, the one thing I think they can improve is the steering - it felt a bit vague and compared to my Rav 4, it's not so direct. The other comment - when I was driving back to the airport, the range was dropping much quicker than the indicator reported. I know I was driving quickly, but it knows the spot and average load and could have been more accurate. It wasn't an issue as I had ensured we had sufficient for the return trip to the airport. So, all in all I am glad I had the experience, but for me a hybrid is still the better option, particularly when I consider pulling our little Eriba caravan.

@ian@mastodon.radio Have you considered getting a (self-charging) hybrid? You would get much better fuel consumption, without the constraints of charging. having worked for Toyota manufacturing for more than 20 years, I would recommend all of their range for problem free motoring.

@wafflesies@infosec.exchange Some time around 1988, my second laser printer from HP stopped printing on a Sunday afternoon, because the print counter was up. No where to buy consumables, and the previous page was perfect. That was the last product I ever bought from HP, and I vowed never to give them another penny as long as I live. F*ck them!

@clareburgess@hachyderm.io I am lucky enough to visit Baden-Württenberg quite often - my wife is German and we go back to see family. Definitely worth a visit! I see these stickers quite often, in English as well as in German. I don't think they are part of an official campaign by the BW tourist office, but they are effective (in my humble opinion)!

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Sadly, in the UK where this ambulance is based, patients are often left in ambulances for hours outside over crowded Accident and Emergency units because there are no beds available inside. Then the ambulances are not available to collect more patients, and people have literally died waiting for help. But hey, we are the 6th richest economy in the world (apparently!!!), and we have nuclear weapons!!! Whoopee! I really think we need to wake up and smell the coffee...

@mcjevans@hachyderm.io Of course it depends on time of day, and who drinks the coffee coming out of the pot. If it is likely that another consumer will be along shortly, then make another pot!
