@Remittancegirl another consideration is that many people's attentions are laser focused on their day-to-day: getting a job, getting the kids off to school on time, fighting with health insurance companies, will the rent check bounce, dad broke his hip, car needs new tires, ad infinitum...no wonder they don't have any energy left for contemplating the moral wreck of DJT

@impermanen_ decades ago there was an article (in "Atlantic Monthly"?) titled "Doctor My Eyes" . It described dozens of medically inexplicable cases of blindness among Hmong people who had resettled in California after fleeing their home country. The conclusion was that these Hmong had witnessed and suffered such unspeakable trauma that they were rendered unable to see. The story haunts me still. At the time I immediately recognized the connection with Browne's lyrics.

Martin Greif's "Depression Modern: The Thirties Style in America" is a love letter--- a joy to flip through just for the illustrations---enhanced with thoughtful, well-researched contextual analysis. Greif eloquently describes the underlying philosophy of optimism for the future expressed with grace, wit and style. I recommend this book to a fellow fan!

@lp0_on_fire @resuna "may" means permission has been granted. ("Mum said I may have cake for dinner") "Might" means possible or potential to happen. ("When it's cloudy, it might rain"). Two words, two very different meanings. Saying "it may rain tomorrow" actually means rain has been granted permission to fall from the sky. "May" is so used so freqently that many people think it means the same as "might".

@Strandjunker@mstdn.social Another perspective on Rupe is that if the audience had rejected and boycotted his vileness, he would have dried up and gone away. There was demand for his product and a dearth of critical thinking in evaluating his output. I wish folks had turned their back on him long ago.
