Also, the low contrast between the text and background colours makes most of them a bit tricky to read. (That’s why I was reading the alt text.) Sorry to nitpick.

And maybe I was naive, but a couple of years ago, I think I would have believed them. We're a tiny startup (~5 people in our whole product team), and previously the things we claimed to do generally matched up with what we actually did. We were extremely agile and flexible in how we worked. We shipped whole new products in a single week, prior to using AI. We're *much* slower using the AI so far.

What they pitched:

more time to do research, craft specs, explore designs, write tests and iterate
the tools enhance our existing skills and knowledge
more collaboration across the company

What they’re doing now:

expecting features to ship 5-10x as quickly
only AI agents may commit code to the app
briefs, specs, ‘skills’, documentation and tests are all hastily written by LLMs

@penpot I’m a designer/front-end dev. I use Claude (not Code) at work sometimes because I am required to. I don’t use LLMs for design or coding. The costs of the tools (stolen data, exploitative training practices, resource use, the ghouls running them, etc.) are far too great, no matter the quality of the output. But when it comes to the output, it’s also mostly very low quality for design and front-end code, anyway. I don’t and will not use LLMs outside of work for any purpose.

@yosh@toot.yosh.is I don’t trust this argument because I hear it often in my own workplace, and yet the real effect of LLM coding has been the opposite. Now that you don’t have to go via, and get feedback from, opinionated developers who may slow you down, we’re seeing a kind of “first idea best idea” pattern play out. Exec level folks can much more easily and quickly create artefacts that they inevitably get attached to, or even ship. It’s “my daughter drew this logo idea” but for an entire code base.

I wonder if there’s a way to combine this with something like the Utopia fluid scale, with the values calculated in place, negating the fixed breakpoints almost entirely.
