https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/kazakhstan-strategy-considers-four-nuclear-power-plants Stable energy source will certainly help keep Kazakhstan its economic growth rate high. Its GDP per capita is already higher than that of Russia.

@rmattila74@energydon.fi It seems that at the moment the only FBRs online are Russian BN-600&800 and new Indian PFBR (500MWe prototype, so a decent one). China is building two CFR600 in Xiapu. Plus Russian BREST-300 (only lead-cooled?) It's sad to see France abandoned its fast projects, but Super-Phenix had bad press back in the days. Maybe with the new generation of EPRs there will come need for fast reactors. Hopefully... 🙄

https://www.newtimes.co.rw/article/34994/news/energy/rwanda-russia-discuss-nuclear-energy-ties

For African countries #Russia is not a pariah, but can be an experienced supplier of cheap #NuclearPower solutions.

#Rwanda plans to have 110 MW of #nuclear power in the 2030s.

Japan has restarted its 15th nuclear unit after Tohoku earthquake and tsunami and Fukushima disaster. It's a welcomed move that will help ease effects of limited fossil fuels supply from Persian Gulf.

Before disaster NPPs supplied up to 30% of Japans electric energy. In 2023 this number was as low as 5.5%, but is expected to rise to 20%.

https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/bulgarian-minister-wants-fixed-price-for-kozloduy-7-and-8

Bulgaria exercises cautious approach after two unsuccessful attempts to build new nuclear power plant in Belene.

It will be interesting to see the Kozloduy site to grow to 8 units.

RE: @collectifission@greennuclear.online

Will Hungary have its Hanhikivi or Belene moment?

In Hanhikivi, Finland, construction of VVER-1200 (AES-2006) has not started when project was abandoned after Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In Belene, Bulgaria, project was cancelled in 2012 for economic reasons.

Univ of Illinois Urbana-Champaign applied to NRC for permit for construction of a research reactor - KRONOS micro modular reactor from NANO.

https://www.nrc.gov/sites/default/files/cdn/doc-collection-news/2026/26-043.pdf

There's preliminary safety analysis report available with some interesting details in it. More interesting details were redacted as proprietary information belonging to NANO.

https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2609/ML26090A467.pdf

Reactor is 45MWth helium cooled, graphite moderated with prismatic TRISO fuel with enrichment not exceeding 9,9%.

@rmattila74@energydon.fi Maybe secondary with molten salt and use as industrial heat source? Salt should be safer than sodium, also safer at interface with water. I'm not sure if cheaper (I guess depends on salt...). On the other hand using 3 different coolants would increase costs and complexity I'm not sure if I saw a sodium-cooled design (even on paper) that could run supercritical steam turbine 🤔 Probably more of a heat exchanger and turbine design issue...
