My daughter has an anxiety disorder and sings terribly, but when she sings we all dance.
My son has executive functioning issues but likes to paint, and when he paints we all marvel at the colours.
My wife can't plan or cook but her empathy is astounding so when we hurt, she is our solace.
Though I am the "breadwinner" I have substance issues. Regardless, I receive hugs and encouragement and appreciation.
This is partners. This is family, This is community. This is humanity.
Love has no shame.
It took me almost 50 years, but I finally understand. When we are told to find a partner that "makes you happy", it doesn't mean find someone who tells you you're beautiful all the time, or who can buy you nice clothes or cars or a house. It doesn't mean someone who is gorgeous or intelligent or educated or popular.
Finding someone who makes you happy comes down to 2 things... they make you laugh and they support your dreams. They want to joyfully share the journey.
@cwebber@octodon.social I might not be a particularly deep thinker, but while I'm also concerned about the rise of AI, I'm not concerned about the human capacity to find meaningful and fulfilling activities. My concerns are more related to automation and AI making human workers redundant, with our current government and society being very poor at sustaining a person who has no income.
@debzshy@universeodon.com That image is so picture-perfect I want to make a pendant or a t-shirt out of it!
I'm not religious, but that doesn't prevent me from appreciating truth when I see it regardless of source: "Because at any given moment, the scripture says we’re a step from death. And so I’ve decided that whatever breath I have, it is too precious to waste on hate, on oppression and on being mean to people. It’s only to be used for the cause of justice."

@85MR2@mastodon.sdf.org My wife and I were watching "The Fallout" today and my son walked into the room and informed us "Hey, that's Wednesday!". I didn't know, but OMG what an exceptional young artist she is. Might now have to watch Wednesday show just to see her in other roles.
Is it just me?
So many of the news sources I frequent are posting fun and frivolous stories with accompanying vids streamed from the bird site. I'm decisively not clicking on any Twitter links (miniscule act of non-support) but want to watch the vids for a chuckle. When will the bird stop being the de-facto platform for all these amuse-bouches?
A fitting ponder for 2023...
You alone control your actions.
Every action is a choice.
Every choice is a future.
You alone control your future.
@naunihal@mastodon.social I am white. I am Northern. I am male. For those reasons I am very hesitant to offer my opinion, but not adverse to it. I don't know anything about Live Journal, but I can tell you that in the month I've been with Masto I have been exposed to voices, genders, creators, perspectives, wit and wonder from around the globe that never showed up on the bird. I'm sorry you feel it's like a private gathering. You recommend?
@futurebird@sauropods.win When anyone boosts one of my posts, it rarely results in more followers for me, and that's just fine. The wonderful thing when my post gets boosted is that more people join that discussion and suddenly I'm exposed to a lot of new people who I WANT TO FOLLOW. Boosting posts is like being an excellent host at a party, introducing people to each other.
@gretathunberg@mastodon.nu Your recent post on the bird site... you are just... remarkable. 👌
