Hey folks, just a quick bit of an announcement. I've decided to step back from the moderation team here at #mstdnca. This is in no way a reflection on the team or the instance, just that my own health stuff right now makes it impossible for me to devote the time and energy necessary to doing right by the members of the community. @mmasnick Someone correct me if they think I’m being too fussy, but did he actually confirm they’ve stopped their program of paying certain hate-promoting creators to use the service to draw people in? The exact quote when he was asked that whether that was ongoing (in a far more politic manner, to be sure) was “No. Not really.” Not really sounds like a bit of a qualifier to me..

@BlippyTheWonderSlug@social.cologne Yah, awareness of change has a slow propagation rate ‘round these parts. :) There’s been a lot of significant changes and updates of late what with the influx of new people/developers/interest in the service, so it may be worth your while to check out the changelog when your admin updates the software your instance runs on, if you want to stay up to date on this sort of thing. :) YMMV ofc! 🤷🏽👍 Reading changelogs is not exactly fun times for everybody.

@OmniscientOrb@beige.party Make sure you check out BC for production. We’ve got lots of meese out here, as well as snow and green forest by season. Great scenery for location shooting, and Vancouver has a great production network and studios for film & TV. Also a pretty sweet assortment of tax credits for foreign projects that team with local industry. Bring #MooseCop to Canada, we know how to make him feel at home. 🇨🇦

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social The part that gets me is SVB referring to their board members as 1 Black and 1 LGBTQ+. Not even bothering to use a word like “person” or “members”. Just a number of the specific quality they consider the defining characteristic. The dehumanizing is obscene.

@tillybridges @nixkelley Same for #Jewish communities, IMO. Aside from the moral imperatives and historical experiences that should inform and ensure solidarity with other marginalized groups, it’s also simple pragmatism. The bigots/fascists are after all of us, so we all have to stand together and support each other against a common enemy.

I’d say it’s been pretty much a crime (whether or not it’s on the books) throughout modern history (and also, y’know further back). There’s a reason “Be Gay. Do Crimes.” became such an immediately and widely adopted phrase, IMO and the cultural link between being queer & trans and criminality is, IMO, the biggest part of it.

So, prompted by some posts and recent advertising I reached out to my pharmacist regarding the shingles vaccine, which is recommended as I had chicken pox as a child and am now entering my serious 50’s.

It’s 360$ for the two shots. Bizarrely he said the per-shot price is 180, then explained it was a 2-shot process. So that was weird.

But mainly I’m annoyed by a system that would rather let me get sick & pay to have me treat the sickness rather than pay to have me avoid the sickness entirely.
