@Marcel_Gehlen@social.tchncs.de Doing pretty much everything there I found enough to fully upgrade one set of wand+grimoire+armor (also breaking down everything I didn't really need including uniques). I agree that there's not much room to experiment with equipment, unfortunately.

Better type system, way better tooling & error messages, memory safety, less verbose, easier to read, easy to track dependencies, a standard library that doesn't actually suck (like std::regex, for example…), the build system is not a huge POS ecosystem. That's only part of what I, a C++ developer, see as advantages of Rust over C++.

Why wouldn't Rust proponents advertise the fact that their language systemically targets these? That's a huge part of our problems! b) The other types of issues (logic errors, insufficient error handling…) that will be there then are also here now, just on top of memory safety issues.

Just like Rust won't ever replace all of the kernel's C code, neither would C++. Therefore C++ would need to build those abstractions on top of said C code, just like Rust has to. And here C++ is simply way too lax in what it accepts. If the underlying model of the existing C code has really obscure & hard-to-get-right ownership semantics, then the C++ code will as well, and it cannot offer much on top of that.

It only offers you certain tools that make it easier to write memory safe code. It doesn't require you to do that, though. Therefore all the bad design and unclear ownership issues present in the C code Lina complains about would be the same in C++ code based on said C code. And due to the compiler/the language not being any help with those the C++ code would not actually improve anything.
