@jrbe I fully agree, but I'm very worried if human-sized computing will even still be possible, if big tech becomes a monopsony for hardware. With the current RAM prices, for the first time in 25 years I'm actually worried about running out of spare parts for my self-hosted setup.

@mxp@mastodon.acm.org Wait, I recognize that logo. It's not Forth, it's ColorForth, a crazy IDE that runs on bare metal, an editor that only works in memory on what is currently executing, a keyboard driver that defaults to dvorak, and a language where color have semantics. I still have nightmares about that thing.

@nils@mastodon.bsd.cafe @mxp@mastodon.acm.org I have, actually; I bought a GreenArray dev board 10 years ago, after some random guy I met at a CCC event talked me into it. It definitely felt like the work of a genius, meaning I felt way too dumb to do anything useful with it. I love concatenative languages, I've played with factor and uiua. I think the semantic color is a stroke of genius, and also a giant middle finger to colorblind hackers.

@fj@mastodon.social I've also heard the argument that classical crypto is bad because someone might make new discoveries in mathematics that breaks it. But they never consider the possibility of new discoveries in physics.

Recovering from my biopsy from last thursday.

It was supposed to be a painless, and relatively safe, procedure. When discussing the risks, we evoked arteriovenal fistulae. Doc said they do 2 biopsies per week in this unit, and they can't remember how many years they last saw one bad enough to require an intervention.

Well guess who won the fucking lottery.

But then, hilarious plot twist: my fistula might actually date back from the last biopsy, 20 years ago.

Yesterday, I made a relatively minor, but fun, thing.

I made that thing by standing on the shoulders of the giants of free software, so until this year I wouldn't have bat an eyelid, and I would have put my thing on github. Take and give back.

Now I'm even hesitant to publish it on my own forge.

What should I do ?
