@maaretp With my students, interns and coworkers I use the expression "taught out of frame" ("éducation hors cadre" in french) that, for me, is more accurate : you learnt out of a formal frame, you have been able to choose your way of learning (sometimes) outside of the classic teacher/learner frame.
That doesn't mean you were alone : all the people before you, around you were (often indirectly) here. They were the doc you read, the people you met, the discussion you had.
