like with the ?si= and other tracking things?
i imagine a plugin that takes all the tracking links for a given video that have been generated so far and shuffles them around as to make them useless for tracking
sadly i cant write it, though

this seems to imply that a bad actor with a lot of money could bias all the google search results for particular questions or topics, right?

i am kinda saddened by the loss of the US penny.
I know it doesn't make sense(ha) from a money standpoint, but there is a very strong desire in me to hoard copper objects

i have seen this elsewhere as part of the ‘centrist” mindset, which is to avoid “noise’ at all costs.
They consider nazis bad because they screamed racial hatred and made a fuss, and that is “noise” to them.
but they also consider standing up for yourself to be ‘noise’.
so in that mindset, “both sides’ means ‘both sides are equally noisy”.
which as far as worldviews go, sucks ass.

I wonder if this can be used (by police) to fight against some kinds of warrant canaries (perhaps not the right term?)
Imagine if someone is arrested. The police could then hook an AI into their social medias and nobody would know they were even missing. So a “i stop updating this if i arrested” could be defeated.
The AI hooked into social media could then act as an informant on the arrested person’s friends

i'm not sure that this has the plasticity of normal brains - memories aren't just data, they're connections between the neurons.
Whereas in memory-augmented systems, they're separate.
I feel a dissonance in myself
because technically, this does address some of the issues with "agents", but I can't help but feel there's still something major missing
other than the fact they're being used to terrorize open source devs and all the other ethical problems

@ngaylinn Another bit I remember is that these models in the wild don't "learn"
like for the matplotlib agent, you had people in the comments trying to explain to the "agent" why it was denied.
And it was just - pointless.
The "agent" has the capacity to respond, but it doesn't have the capacity to rewire itself to do better next time.
(That is not to say that it is impossible to make an agent that *does* learn in the wild, but that has its own problems, see Microsoft's "Tay")

i mean there is a large disconnect with how effective coding assistants are and how effective they *feel*.
LLMs appear to be at least a half-decent approximation of the left half of the brain, "hallucinations" and all
but humans seem to have that damped down internally - as in internal mechanisms make some of those weird ideas go away
LLMs/"agents" have no real internal state than be used as a fallback
there is the system prompt - but that can be overwhelmed as the model continues

I have seen some of these "agents" out, and they seem to have the same problems
the "agents" that were told to govern a vending machine would collapse the longer it was operational etc
and there was the shenanigans about the "agent" that tried to push an update to matplotlib then published a hit piece when it was denied
so they *seem* to have the same problems as normal LLMs, but it's harder to say exactly how because their abilities seem to better approximate human abilities.

if there were a silver lining, it probably would be that my skills are getting better in comparison.

god, I have needed a word like this!
Like - face generation. People either wear glasses or they don't, it's a binary operation. But generation via diffusion starts with a continuous feature space, and is acted upon by a continuous function.
This code will function in most cases but it is fundamentally incorrect.
If you take two faces, one with glasses and one without, interpolating between them will get you weird glasses melded with the face, and this is an artefact of that.

There was a shitpost going around calling it "Applied Statistics" for the same reason, but honestly "Applied Statistics" is a better name for what a lot of this is doing than a literal machine learning things

I kind of worry that I will get sucked into it if I am forced to use it for work etc.
maybe that's not justified, but by seeing how badly people want me to "just try it", it sounds like an addiction i want to steer clear of.

it gives me ideas
a difference between thinking as an individual and thinking as a collective.
If one were thinking collectively, the answer to roko would be “just don’t build it lol”
the tragedy of the commons would be a nonstarter (who in their right mind would trash their own stuff)
these just become “paradoxes” when thinking as an individual in a larger system
