taking a short break after a 1/2 day of 'all the things'.
a house finch is chattering outside amidst sunshine & dark clouds and an occasional breeze drifts through the open window. i'm listening to 高木正勝's Journal for People CD that i bought over 20 years ago. i was obsessed with both the album and its music videos at that time, and it still puts me in a very particular headspace.
today, i installed uxn on my old aleutia t1 from about 15 years ago, thanks to some help from @neauoire@merveilles.town! this was actually the first computer that i ever bought specifically for tinkering. somewhere along the way, it lost its ability to connect to the internet, but i've been thinking of that as an upside & a learning opportunity.

while weaving a new ascii splash page for my website, i've decided to use the "sr-only" class to write some text specifically for screen readers. as i'm increasingly drawing inspiration from spiders, who almost all have extremely poor vision, it feels appropriate to move in this direction.
meanwhile, a thought popped into my head: what might computers & the web 'look like' in a world oriented around vibration rather than visual perception? a haptic/sound-first world?
(there must be a sci-fi novel out there somewhere about this)

last Thursday, i had the opportunity to take an amazing maskmaking and ancestry workshop with Kyra Royo Fay, where we worked with Scotch broom, gorse, and wheatpaste while reflecting on 'invasiveness' and ancestry. a lot of grief came out for me, rooted in my latter stewardship years, where my relationship to 'invasive' plants became increasingly complex. this was the first time i truly felt comfortable sharing about these feelings, and was in good company.
as we settled in to the space (Nova Arts Hub), there were sprigs of broom on the tables and we noticed lots of cute, tiny insects wandering around the table, displaced from their cozy homes. so i decided to make a mask inspired by them. i brought one of my muses home as well, and have since learned that they are broom psyllid nymphs that apparently feed exclusively on broom. i wish i had rescued more. (i may add some features in the future to represent them more accurately, since i couldn't see them up close at the time.) 🪲
i kept thinking of @ephemeral@mograph.social 's work with aiteann throughout the gathering, and look forward to more reflections/work in this vein. i may also collaborate with Kyra in the future.

hey everyone! i'm Seán, an interrelational artist currently living in the Salish Sea region ~ east of míqәn, beside maple & pine, near singing robins and Merlin's barrow.
i previously lived at sx̣ʷət̕č̕əlíéw̕txʷ with my partner Kate (~wingy), where we both also joined the Scuttleverse and met many lovely, inspiring butts, such as @glyph@merveilles.town, @cblgh@merveilles.town, & i'm sure others who've landed here @,,
i try to find creative ways of weaving together art, death, ecology, technology, and autonomy through various community projects & events. i also have an introspective art practice that ebbs and flows.
mostly, i make a lot of mistakes and do my best to learn from them.
feeling very honoured and happy to join merveilles.town. i've never given the fediverse a proper go, and haven't socially networked online much since wandering away from ssb several years ago (and shedding my old shell). i do spend time at special.fish though!
looking forward to meeting other townsfolk here and getting to know this region of the web better :^)
