Kodansha recently re-re-republished Ghost in the Shell in another box set. This set claims to be uncensored. It is... moreso than some others? Two pages were restored to Volume 1 that were previously only available in the 2004 Dark Horse printing.
But the quality of the colors on these pages are notably lower than all the others in the book. So, since I will dig to China on even small issues, I looked at archives of each edition in both English and Japanese.
Turns out, these color problems are a match for the very 1st Dark Horse printing from 1995. So, I think Kodansha went back and scanned the pages from that, and simply flipped them around to match the modern right-to-left format.
Instead of scanning the newer, high quality sources from the Japanese Solid Box, or the 2004 Dark Horse (which was also very high quality), they sourced images from the oldest, smallest, lowest quality copy available.
So weird, given all the attention to detail for the rest of this edition. Hmph.
