@TechTangents@dialup.space I got back into Palms and Handsprings a few months ago! There is still a working driver to make the ancient sync software work. Since they didn’t have drives, just memory they turn on so amazingly fast.
@mikee@latenightlinux There isn’t a target demographic. Contributors just work on whatever they want to. If you want OpenSuse and the part you care about better, you’re expected to make it better. If a part looses interest, they just ship outdate libraries because nobody volunteers to remove things.
@latenightlinux After a couple years of wanting OpenSuse coverage, I’ve since left for Fedora. OpenSuse and Suse have never been further apart, Suse enterprise is attaching themselves to any Ai title they can, and OpenSuse is just whatever a contributor wants to work on. No real central vision and they don’t want people asking for one.
@felimwhiteley Primeagen both makes sponsored Ai videos followed up by videos pointing out their flaws. I’ve found him hard to watch as he transitioned from Dev guy to Social Media guy.
@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place I think in this analogy Fred then follows you around taking notes, and the next Big Mac will cost based on an algorithm as much as you can stand.
@bcantrill@mastodon.social@ahl@mastodon.social Not sure I can make the call, but on my mind has been if there is longer term loss in pride of craftsmanship with reaching for LLM solutions. Even slipping care for the user needs in turn. Maybe this feeling is influenced by the noise from llm vendors. So many of my breakthroughs have come from exploratory coding. Lightbulbs that go off for future work.
@kirb@hachyderm.io@TechTangents@dialup.space 30 years of fixes and optimizations of pain points though. Also, imagine running Pentium 2 code on your 2025 processor where the cache is the size of the entire legacy memory system.
@smartosorg@hostux.social Is there a good explanation of what went on with the Triton datacenter acquisition. Who owns what, etc. Triton is owned by Parler now, but what about SmartOS? The mnx sites have not posted any blogs since they got Triton from Joyent. Is MNX just the url run by the community?
