A similar thing seems to be the case over here in the US. You've got MAGAs MAGAing, Republicans pealing off to MAGAs, independents, and "right-wing"(most US politics are right-wing) Democrats.
Dems wonder why they can't get purchase and everyone knows their inept, and so they pull in whatever right leaning policy they can find("screw trans peeps") and try to bait more republicans. If they stuck to their values like the "right"...
